Task Question:

You are the teacher of the 4–5-year room in an early childhood setting. Over the past few weeks, the children have shown interest in the following song – Small Potatoes – Let’s Get Creative –

. To follow up on this interest, you organised an excursion to the art gallery. Whilst on the excursion you recorded the following documentation record – Inspired to draw – a visit to the art gallery –

. In follow up to the continued interest and excursion you have made the pedagogical decision to commence a project investigation on Getting to Know Famous Artists and their Works.

In order to start the project, you need to do some further research to develop your own content and conceptual knowledge before starting the project with the children.

Phase 1:

·         Visit a local Art Gallery which has famous artists works on display (this will be organised for you in week 4 or 5 of trimester)

·         Whilst at the Art Gallery select a piece of visual and/or media art that resonates with you. Identify the artist, the art mediums used and the description of the work. Look to see if they have any other works on display, if so, record these as well.

·         Document this phase so that it can be used as part of the project/investigation.

Phase 2:

·         Research this famous artist and write a bio and explanation of their approach to artworks in language that the children in your room will understand. Ensure to also include vocabulary that will extend the children’s acquisition of further visual or media arts learning.

Note: use children language not academic that will be easy for children to understand.

·         Develop a teaching resource list of a minimum of three (3) resources that you could use with the children to extend their knowledge of the artist and artworks. Examples of the resources include children’s literature, apps, videos, shows, songs. Ensure to include an image of and or URL links to the resources. Provide an outline of the resource and how it would be utilised with the children to enhance the project/investigation.

·         Select up to three (3) of the artists’ works that could be presented and discussed with the children. Include pictures of these works in your paper.

Note: Example: the artis is Picasso choose his art work what media he use and other.

Phase 3:

·         Design three (3) play-based curriculum provisions that address the following:

·         A small group experience where you introduce the artist, the type of art they are famous for, and the art mediums they use and then as a group create an artwork inspired from the artist’s work.

Note: explain how you do this activity with children.

·         A creative art learning area where you use the artists’ works as provocations. Set up this learning area and take photos to add to your assessment.

·         A project/investigation learning area for the children to freely explore materials, photos, images etc. on the artist. Set up this learning area and take photos to add to your assessment.
