PURPOSE

The objective of this assignment is to analyse the importance of ethical conduct among the media practitioners, especially the journalists.

REQUIREMENT

Ethics are the moral principles that govern the appropriate conduct for individuals and organisations. Journalists must always conduct themselves ethically. When you read an article in a newspaper or on a website, or when you see a story reported on your local television station, you most likely assume it is true. There’s nothing more important to a news organisation than accuracy, which means getting all the facts right, accurate and always seeking the truth. Consistent accuracy gives the journalist and the news organisation credibility. Credible news organisations and their employees always strive to be fair and independent; that is, free from the influence of government, businesses or individuals.

Based on the above statement, answer the following:

  1. What are the elements of ethical conduct in journalism? Relate your answer to the Code of Ethics in Journalism.
  2. Then, discuss FOUR ethical violations in journalism. Provide some local and international examples.
  3. Finally, imagine you are a famous news reporter in Malaysia. Discuss why ethics are important in your profession. 
  4. By giving real examples, analyse legal issues and communication laws that journalists need to understand.

Your essay should include relevant examples, images, citations etc. to support your discussion.

Organisasi berita yang mempunyai kredibiliti dan pekerja mereka sentiasa berusaha bersikap adil dan independen; iaitu, bebas daripada pengaruh kerajaan, perniagaan atau individu.

Berdasarkan penyataan di atas, sediakan yang berikut:

  2. Kemudian, bincangkan EMPAT pelanggaran etika dalam kewartawanan. Berikan beberapa contoh tempatan dan antarabangsa.
  3. Akhir sekali, bayangkan anda adalah wartawan berita terkenal di Malaysia. Bincangkan mengapa etika penting dalam profesion anda.
  4. Dengan memberikan contoh-contoh sebenar, analisis isu dan undang-undang komunikasi yang perlu difahami oleh wartawan.
