Construction Cadetships in the Australian Construction Industry

REPORT TOPIC
Prepare an Academic Report on the following:
‘Construction Cadetships in the Australian Construction Industry’.
The report should encompass the following:

Your personal evaluation and critique of the key findings in your report including your evaluation of construction cadetships, your
findings in relation to potential issues/problems with cadetships and your recommendations to improve construction cadetships. Then
your likely future directions in your career journey over the next 4 years of your course (giving reasons)
You need to provide written confirmation from the practitioner that you have interviewed them. This person’s position, company and contact
telephone number should be included in the confirmation. Confirmation via email is OK as long as these details are provided. This must be
included as an appendix to the report.
REPORT REQUIREMENTS
The report should be approximately 4,000 words in length. However, there is not a strict word count for this assignment. Students can
exceed the word count by 25% without penalty.

Construction Cadetships in the Australian Construction Industry

Universal Assignment

An overview and explanation of construction cadetships in the Australian construction industry

A literature review of construction cadetships in Australia including the history of cadetships, the type of cadetships and cadetship
programs, the benefits of cadetships and the potential problems/issues with cadetships

A literature review and analysis of the main types of employers in the Australian construction industry that may provide construction
cadetships and/or training programs for university students studying construction project management or construction management
courses.

A case study of an Australian company/organization that you would be interested in securing a cadetship with (including the reasons
why and the main benefits/potential issues)

An industry interview with an appropriately qualified/experienced practitioner on their views on construction cadetships and their broader
career advice for you. The practitioner should ideally have a minimum of 10 years industry experience. Your report should include an
overview of the key findings and recommendations/advice from this practitioner (note – not a transcript of the interview).
REFERENCING & ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF SOURCES
The use of Chat GPT or any other generative AI tools to assist you with your report is permitted. However, the final report will still need to
be written in your own words and the use of Chat GPT, etc referenced appropriately. The UTS APA 7 Referencing Guide provides guidance
on referencing Chat GPT, etc in Section 6.08
Declaration, Reflection & Critique – Chat GPT & Other Generative AI Tools
Your are required to include a declaration in the Appendix to your report stating whether you used Chat GPT or any other AI generative
tools to write your report and, if so, what parts of the report and background research were supported by ChatGPT (or other AI generative
tools) directly and/or indirectly. For example, literature searching, draft writing, sourcing content, writing, editing, grammar, etc. You also
need to explain how you referenced ChatGPT, etc in your report. Then further reflect on and critique your use of ChatGPT, etc by writing
a statement on where the tool/s was helpful and why and where it was not and why. For example, biased content, stereotypical phrasing
and perspectives, indicative of industry practice/trends or naïve). This declaration, reflection and critique should be approx. 250-300 words.
However, if you did not use Chat GPT or other similar tools at all then you can simply state that in your declaration.
Please note that your report will not be marked if this Declaration, Reflection & Critique is not included in the appendix and a zero grade
awarded.
SELF-EVALUATION CHECKLIST OF REPORT REQUIREMENTS:
Students are required to include a self-evaluation of their report. This will comprise a checklist of the report requirements which students
are required to fill out and include in the appendix to the report. This checklist will be provided separately to students by the lecturer.
REPORT STRUCTURE:
The report should include the following: – Title Page – Table of Contents – Executive Summary – Introduction – Body of the Report with appropriate headings/sub-headings – Conclusion & Recommendations – Bibliography/References – Appendix
The appendix to the report should include the following: – Interviewee Statement – signed and dated statement from the interviewee confirming that you have interviewed them. – Declaration, Reflection & Critique – Chat GPT & Other Generative AI Tools – Self-Evaluation Checklist of Report Requirements
REPORT SUBMISSION:
The report must be submitted electronically in one PDF File via the ‘Turnitin’ facility in UTS Canvas. Students will be able to submit multiple
draft submissions of their report in Turnitin prior to submission of their final report. This will enable students to learn about the Turnitin
system and will also help students to identify problems that they may be having with referencing and acknowledging their sources of
information in their report.
REFERENCING REQUIREMENTS & SIMILARITY/PLAGIARISM ASSESSMENT:
Your report will be assessed by the ‘Turnitin’, ‘AI Cheat Check’ and other plagiarism software programs for similarity content.
It is an essential requirement that the report be written in your own words with appropriate referencing of all sources of information. A fail
grade will be awarded if referencing requirements in accordance with APA 7 are not complied with. Evidence of plagiarism will result
in zero marks being awarded and, under university rules, will be reported to the Faculty for further action.
MARKING ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:
The study should include a comprehensive evaluation of current literature in the topic areas and an industry interview. Marks will be based
on adherence to the report requirements, referencing in full accordance with APA 7, the extensiveness and quality of the literature review,
the quality of the interview and incorporation of the interviewee findings in the report, the professionalism of the report (grammar, spelling,
structure and presentation), the quality of the content and the quality of the personal evaluation of the topic area.
