Task: Research Project: 20 Marks
Background:
Extended reality (XR) is a term referring to all real-and-virtual combined environments and human-machine interactions generated by computer technology and wearables. E.g. It includes representative forms such as augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR) and virtual reality (VR) and the areas interpolated among them. The levels of virtuality range from partially sensory inputs to immersive virtuality, also called VR.
XR is a superset which includes the entire spectrum from “the complete real” to “the complete virtual” in the concept of reality–virtuality continuum introduced by Paul Milgram. Still, its connotation lies in the extension of human experiences especially relating to the senses of existence (represented by VR) and the acquisition of cognition (represented by AR). With the continuous development in human–computer interactions, this connotation is still evolving.
XR is a rapid growing field being applied in a wide range of ways, such as extended reality learning, entertainment, marketing, real-estate, training and remote work.
Task: In this task, you will write a research report on an emerging area (Extended Reality) from information security point of view, then discuss it with your peers, and later use their feedback to improve your final report.
- Select a topic from the topic set and research it based on current literature. Use at least three reputable journal and/or conference papers, and support your findings with your own personal and/or workplace experience, if applicable. Submit a preliminary report to the subject forum at least two weeks before the assessment is due and seek feedback from your peers. During this process, you are expected to:
- Contribute to at least two of your peers’ posts.
- Raise questions about the information provided by other students.
- Respond to questions raised by other students on their topics and yours.
- Analyse the feedback you have received from the forum, and develop a summary identifying any important issues that you believe were not addressed in the discussions. Explain why these issues are important in your view, and discuss what is the most important less you have learnt as a result of these discussions. Finally, develop recommendations on how this knowledge will improve the network security of your workplace. You should include evidence of your forum discussions as an appendix in your final report.
- Submit your final report through Turnitin. Your final report should be well structured, incorporating the outcomes of your feedback analysis, and using proper APA 7 referencing.
