Background to this assessment | Historically there are many reasons why International Supply Chains exist. The reason why they are international is because the location(s) of the production of goods/services differs from the location(s) of consumption. This may be due to a range of political, social, economic, and other factors. In order to exploit these factors to deliver value to customers within a supply chain, organisations need to plan, engage, and deploy resources in a meaningful way. However, is this sustainable when this may have a negative impact on the environment and contribute to climate change? |
Assessment Task | Instructions: Analyse the processes and steps needed to model, develop, implement, and manage sustainable International Supply Chains. Apply contemporary best practices in relation to the cultural, social, and environmental drivers as well as accounting for the related risks in these areas. |
Guidelines: Due to the diverse nature of supply chains, there are several management theories, methods, and models used for modelling, developing, implementing, and managing international supply chains with varying degrees of effectiveness. Critically evaluate the effectiveness of these management theories and develop recommendations on the critical factors that determine the success of a sustainable International Supply Chain. |
Areas to consider are:Processes and steps in international supply chain management models, methods, and theoriesRobust best practices and due diligence in international supply chainsSustainable supply chain models and practices.A New Zealand-based organisation or an industry, with significant emphasis on the NZ context, may be used as examples to apply analytical concepts and showcase the results of your evaluation. Other international organisations may also be used.See the list of journals accessible for this course on the Course Overview page as well as the references and links provided in the different topic pages of the course.Search for additional appropriate and applicable information and articles that will allow you to comply with the assignment instructions.
