Assignment Overview

For this module, summative assessment worth 100% of the total mark will be via this single in-course assignment. To support evidencing achievement of all learning outcomes for the module, a written report forms the basis of the module assessment. It is an individual assessment and should therefore be all your own work. Students should not collude or plagiarise work. Appropriate action will be taken, according to Northumbria University regulations, if collusion or plagiarism is suspected. Please see the section on academic integrity for clarification.

This assignment is designed to provide an opportunity for focus and reflection towards your development as a business cognisant technical specialist in your chosen pathway. Building on the knowledge and experience developed so far on the programme you will have selected an appropriate CPD course to be undertaken for which this assignment will be focused.

Note – Summative attainment within a chosen CPD activity undertaken is not included within the mark awarded for this module.

Your choice of CPD needs to be carefully considered in partnership with your Skills Coach and Employer/Line Manager to ensure a good alignment with your development needs, and also with consideration to evidencing the required skills and technical knowledge for the apprenticeship standard. Appendix 1 contains a full list of apprenticeship standard specialist pathway skills. You are not required to evidence all skills in your pathway within one assignment, however, you should consider the evidence currently accumulated from previous modules, and your remaining journey through the programme.

Assignment Tasks and Deliverables

The main submission is a single individual portfolio report that should consist of:

  1. A critical review of three reflective models and selection of one of these to use to support your reflection in part 2 and 3 this assignment. You should discuss the specific relevance of the model chosen to the context in which you are conducting this Professional Practice piece.

[15 marks]

  1. A discussion of the selection of CPD in relation to the wider technical area, the context within your organisation, and your specific role. This should reference your professional development plan. Include your professional development plan as an appendix.

.

This section should include:

  • An overview of the CPD including main learning points (10 marks)
  • Identification of specific projects for which this CPD has had or could have an impact (5 marks)
  • Detailed discussion and evidence (where possible) of applying the learning with reference to technical knowledge acquired in relation to the targeted apprenticeship standard (25 marks)
  • A summary of future action based on your CPD learning and its application (5 marks)

A critically reflective and evaluative narrative should be maintained throughout, examining the effect of implementing the knowledge acquired during from the CPD course from a technical and professional perspective, comparing to your previous practice and other potential approaches identified through literature.

Note – Where time constraints mean that the implementation of technical knowledge has not yet been possible, this should focus on detailed plans within appropriate projects that have been identified. In this case, full evidencing against the standard may not yet be possible, however, plans should be detailed to a level that that it is evident that the new knowledge has been assimilated. Include a table showing mapping of assignment contents to standards as an appendix.
