Research title: A Comparative study of the leadership styles from the perspective of teachers

Research title: A Comparative study of the leadership styles from the perspective of teachers

Some background for setting up the context –

The aspect of research deeply studied about the leadership styles which are effective to improve the school environment and the quality of education in India. Improvement in Primary education system has long been researched but leadership styles in education system which is the major component has been researched very less at the primary education in India.

Considering the importance of leadership style into education I designed this study where teachers and principal can exhibit their valuable thoughts about the best leadership style to bring the changes in school environment for the better future.

Research questions:

1. To investigate about the leadership style adopted by the principals and teachers in the

Private primary schools in Delhi, India.

2. To trace the challenges faced by the teachers and principals while practicing their

Leadership style.

3. What measures can be taken to implement the effective leadership style in private primary school in Delhi, India.

Chapter – 4 – Findings and Discussion

First Part – Findings

Discuss Themes(examples are given below) and Do the Comparative analysis  (Thematic analysis)

Data Analysis – Based on Themes and Sub Categories.

Data Interpretate(based on the answers received)

Second Part – Discussion

Example : Shared from Uni

Now is the time to extract from the participants sayings pieces that suit with your literature review. So go to the leadership styles and try to identify their styles. Do you find similarities?

It is clearly stated “servant leadership”

Next: Which leadership style motivates and empower the followers? That is your other theme then.

While you present and explain, then you can mention their slight differences as for example, “P1 was aware of his leadership style…” and you analyse their replies.

Please present all the principals’ findings and then go to the teachers. It looks confusing right now.

Delete the tables at the moment

Steps forward:

  • Write down the general themes for the principals first and put under their responses
  • Identify the sub-categories
  • Implement literature
  • Write the result
  • Follow the same steps for teachers’ answers

You better discuss the comparison in the last chapter. We will see that again

Example:

THEME 1: Leadership styles in practice

Then you present your findings and support with literature about servant leadership

THEME2: Importance of leadership

  1. …..

THEME2: Vision?

  1. … Development/
  2. …..

Here is an example of a previous dissertation. It shows you the way to develop your findings and implement literature: (please be carful with plagiarism)

It is interesting to note that these participants ……… For example, participants G, H, M considered ……………….. Participant T said: “A good teacher ……s…” Participant A said that:

“The ababababbababa babababab ababbabab aabababa bbbbbbba  baababab  aabababab   bababab abbabbab .”

This implies …………………………. This finding aligns with Harris’s (2004) c….. of teacher leaders ……………………………….. Also, (another scholar) believed that……………………………… This explains ………………………………………

This is interpretation!

Email interview has been done

There are 6 participants

3 principals and 3 teachers

2 principals from urban areas and 2 teachers from urban areas

1 principal from rural area 1from rural area

It is a comparative study

Teachers and principals got the different questionnaire.  Refer Questions below

Questionnaires

“A Comparative study of the leadership types from the Teachers and Principals perspectives in private Primary Schools in the state of Delhi, India”

Questionnaires for principals and teachers

For Principals

Name:

Contact details:

Years of experience:

  1. What kind of leadership style you actually practice now?
  • How do you encourage the teachers to take part in School leadership?
  • How would you ensure that your leadership styles are helping the teachers and students in growing and developing their skills?
  • What do you know about the transformational leadership strategy?
  • In what ways do you provide your school with a vision of the future?
  • How do you align your school goals with the leadership style?
  • Which is the best kind of leadership from your perspective? Why?

For Teachers

Years of experience:

  1. Thinking about your work as a member of the staff, in addition to teaching students in your classroom, what are the additional roles do you perform here at school?
  • In what ways does principal encourage you to collaborate with each other?
  • Do any initiatives taken by your principal facilitate your work culture and professional development?
  • Which leadership style do you think would be appropriate to adapt in a school environment?
  • In what ways does your principal provide your school with a vision of the future?
  • What are the challenges faced by you while implementing the leadership style in your school?
  • Do you prefer any leadership style and why do you need it to apply to your school in future?

Suggestion I want my finding and discussions  should focus on the following thing:

From the principal perspective it should say they are following the styles they are aware of leadership they motivate the teachers to come forward and they involve them in decision making

But on the other hand, we have to say that teachers are aware about the leadership styles, principal think about their professional growth but teachers think that they are not involved in decision making they principals are not aligned with leadership styles . they thought that they are overburden, they have spend time in the participation of leadership style  .

In discussion part :

We have discuss our themes which we have created and start comparison what principal and teachers said .

Chapter 5 – Conclusion: 2200words

summary of findings,

highlight key arguments.

Implications,

limitations,

recommendations

separate  mail has been attached for  the conclusion part

  1. Identify your purpose. You’re writing about  …………….. …
  2. Explain the problem at hand.  Abstracts state the “problem” behind your work. …
  3. Explain your methods. …   Briefly
  4. Describe your results …. Briefly
  5. Give your conclusion.

 Tips for Conclusion

Brief chapter introduction + ) A summary of the study and main points:

  • This is the only place where you can use bullet points (because they are justified points that you already explained in your dissertation. Here bullet points are used as a visual illustrator for clarity). But do not repeat word-for-word what you have written before. Paraphrase yourself.

Concluding statements:

  • Answer the research question. Draw out key insights based on your discussions of findings. What is the one thing (or two) that is most important, valuable, and foundational arising from your research? Do not introduce new concepts.

Highlighting contribution and making recommendations (Implications):

  • What can others do now with your research? Does your research provide evidence or justify gaps for needing any policy or practical change? Be modest about it (avoid “should” and “must”, use “need” “could” “may”)

Limitations:

  • Don’t be too negative or over-modest about your achievements at this point. The key to many dissertations is the need to emphasise the contribution that it makes to research.

Link to future research:

Opportunities for future research. What areas did you not have the time and space to investigate in your small study but nonetheless can be worthwhile for future studies? You can suggest something that could be developed from your work as a PhD thesis (in what topic, be specific), or other related research in general

  • In addition to the one overall conclusion chapter to your dissertation, you also need a summary section in each chapter  (as well as an introduction). These are mini ‘conclusions’ throughout your dissertation.
  • Remind the reader what happened in the chapter in a chapter summary. First summarise what you’ve written in this chapter, key arguments; then introduce the next chapter.
  • Avoid using the word “conclusion” anywhere other than the conclusion itself! This can mislead the reader. If you use the word conclusion several times in an essay, the reader will give up trying to work out where the conclusion really is.
  • Conclusion chapter (1200 words; 10% of your dissertation)
  • Chapter summaries (one short paragraph at the end of each chapter)
  • Remember to ‘signpost’- e.g.

‘This chapter has thoroughly explored the literature relevant to my research questions, the following chapter will outline the methodology used for this research.’

  • It is a better idea to raise questions and problems (don’t ask questions with a question mark as if the readers have to answer. State them as problems as if you are provoking people to think deeper) in the conclusion than to provide over-simplified/ naive answers to the assignment title. Don’t presume to solve all the world’s problems in a simplistic and trivial way. Remember, life is never that simple.
  • There is no need to go over every single detail again that you have already mentioned; this would be very boring for the reader!
  • Be careful with tenses. In a conclusion, you will usually want to use the present perfect (e.g. The aim of this dissertation has been to….) followed by the simple past (Chapter 1 provided an overview of…).
  • Avoid personal subjective comments.
  • Ensure that your conclusion really does conclude, and does not just go off at a tangent to discuss something that is unrelated to the dissertation or far-fetched
  • Don’t introduce a new argument in your Conclusion
