Background

So far within the course materials we have discussed many different aspects of Risk Management and have focused our energies on the ideas surrounding Enterprise Risk Management.  This assignment focuses on a specific element of Enterprise Risk Management – the idea of a Risk Register. 

You will recall from the lectures that the central idea of a risk register is to add some structure and consistency to a given project.  The Risk Register informs the decision makers on what the possibility and probability of certain risky outcomes may be.  Your assignment is to create a Risk Register for a specific, real-life scenario that a company is about to experience.

A note of caution.

In the commercial world, a risk register does not have a specific layout or format.  There are several ways in which to present aspects of the scenario and these are completely reliant on the writer.  It is up to you how you present your work.

Required

Step 1

You are required to research the latest corporate report of a company currently listed on the Alternative Investment Market, London.  You should download the company report and study its content.

Step 2

From the company report, you are required to discuss three specific activities that the company is currently engaged in or is intending to engage in.  You should summarise these activities and comment on the Enterprise Risk Exposure that the company may be subjected to for each of these activities.

There are 20% marks allocated for this section of the assignment

Step 3

You are now required to select one of the three activities that you have identified above.  Proceed to discuss with the Board the importance of Risk Registers.  You should include a paragraph on why you chose this activity as opposed to the other two.

There are 10% marks allocated for this section of the assignment

Step 4

Produce a comprehensive risk register based on the activity that you have chosen.  You are free to present the register as you wish but you should ensure that the register is of use, realistic and helpful in making a decision!

There are 50% marks allocated for this section of the assignment

Step 5

Provide a brief report to the Board of the company explaining your thought process on how you have derived your risk register and highlighting any concerns that you think need to be considered.

There are 10% marks allocated for this section of the assignment

Step 6

Make a suggestion on one recommended reading that you feel the Board should read in conjunction with your report.  This can be anything you think is interesting.

How to do well in this assignment.

This assignment is seeking to test your ability to develop, through application, many skills that would be expected of a student of Post Graduate studies.  You should be able to synthesise the different circumstances that the company is facing as per the corporate report, apply a degree of criticality in what you are doing and be able to manipulate both quantitative and qualitative enterprise risk management scenarios in order to derive meaningful management decisions.  Your submission should demonstrate a good standard of language that projects a coherent line of thought.

You are strongly advised to plan your response before you start writing.  Think about what the question is asking you to do and if what you are writing is actually focused and relevant to what you have been asked to write.  You should also think about your presentation and, when referencing please refrain from using Wikipedia, Investopedia, and the like.  Please also be mindful of the submission date and time.
