Assessment 1 Detail
This assessment consists of 7 weekly quizzes. These weekly quizzes will assess your knowledge of key concepts discussed during sessions and mentioned in pre-recorded weekly lectures. For successful completion of the quiz, you are required to study the material provided (lecture slides, tutorials, and reading materials), engage in the unit’s activities, and in the discussion forums. The prescribed textbook is the main reference along with the recommended reading material. By completing this assessment successfully, you will be able to identify fundamental aspects of project management and practices. This will then help in achieving ULO1 to ULO-5.

Assessment 2 Details:
This assessment is designed to assess the student’s understanding of the theoretical learning to practical, real-world situations. This is a great opportunity for the students to demonstrate their ability in:
- Selection of a case project.
- Appreciate the potential of theory in managerial decision making and problem solving and take managerial responsibility by designing a practical course of action (rather than merely making recommendations).
Students are required to select a contemporary project, then describe and discuss different phases of project life cycle, develop WBS and network diagram of the case project.
A report covering the following points should be prepared:
- Select a project at your target company.
- Provide background of the case project.
- Develop the project charter of the case project.
- Conduct of systemic literature review describing and discussing the different classification of project life cycles and their associated phases and choose the best option for your case project.
- Develop work breakdown structure (WBS) of the case project featuring 4-6 levels and 20-30 boxes.
- Develop schedule plan (Activity List featuring 30-50 activities) including durations, sequencing, with milestones, deliverables, and network diagram of the case project
- Conclusions, findings, justifications, recommendations.
The report (2000 words, fully referenced in Harvard style) must be submitted on the due date. The report must have a completed signed cover page.

Assessment 3 Details:
This assessment is a continuation of Assessment 2 (Unit Project- Part A). Students should work on the same selected project and prepare report covering the following requirements.
- Provide an introduction or a summary based on Assignment 2 (Unit project -Part A)
- Analyse project schedule using critical path and Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT).
- Develop Project Budget and Cost Management Plan
- Assess project health of the case project using Earned Value Analysis (EVA), once the project started for 3 months.
- Provide critical assessment of contemporary project management practices.

Case Study:
XYZ restaurant owner wishes to extend his current operation by adding a new webpage to the existing web site to setup an online ordering system for Takeaway Orders. This new page should have a scrolling menu and an online messaging capability to Chat with the customers.
He also requires a new PC with fast internet connection to be supplied at the restaurant’s takeaway
counter.
The idea is that customers will send their requests via online messaging system (chat window). On duty staff receives the order, communicates with the customer, and confirms the customer’s order and pick-up time. A confirmation email/text message will be sent to the customer and the relevant staff. Afterwards, the order will follow the normal process for takeaway orders.
You are required to prepare a Project Proposal/charter covering the following requirements.
- Create a table listing at least five Objectives (in business terms) for this project as you would word them in the Project Proposal/Charter.
- Develop work breakdown structure (WBS) of the case study featuring 3-5 levels and 10-20 boxes.
- Create a Chart or Table, listing all the major tasks, in sequence, and show all dependencies.
- Draw a network diagram showing all the tasks and their dependencies (abbreviate their names if necessary). Arrange the tasks to achieve the shortest time to complete the project and determine the number of weeks it will take to complete the project.
- Calculate the slack or float time for each activity, on the understanding that many tasks can be run in parallel if dependencies permit.
- Finally, list the task numbers that form the critical path.
