Introduction

Travelling which is one of the main hobbies of many people gives them the opportunity to move on from their comfort zones by experiencing viewing, tasting and trying new things. Travelling not only help in exploring new places but also give the chance to be engaged with different people, and embrace new adventures. the report presents a travelling reviewing the capital city of Australia, Sydney which is known for its towering sail structure, super beaches and yacht-studded harbour. The famous destinations of the would-be highlighted along with the transportation system of the city. The recommendation for the improvement of the transportation system of Sydney is also provided.

Destination in Sydney

Sydney is an iconic attraction for travellers with its brilliant beaches and unforgettable places. Though Harbor City is continuously evolving it is one of the popular destinations for tourists. Sydney is also the home city for the icons like the Sydney Harbor bridge which is one of the most visitable and recognizable landmarks. It is not only the largest arch bridge but also spans one of the world’s finest natural harbours. Known as a bright and modern city Sydney is embedded in nature whereas surfing, gallery hopping and fine dining could all take place in one single day by a traveler (Qi et al., 2020). Sydney is offered a mix of both the contemporary buzz and the rich history of the urban areas with a distinct Australian spirit. The reason for the city is singular one has to take a clifftop coastal walk from Bondi to Coo gee, where lush parks, rock pools, and beaches could be seen. The marvellous Sydney Opera House is anchoring the city’s iconic harbour. The Sydney Opera House which hosts many performances each year such as opera, ballet, dance, theatre, music and many more is an attraction for tourists. The tourists can enjoy the preshow drinks at the Opera Bar, and combine shows with the delicious food at the restaurant and Opera Kitchen.  The epic views from the Sydney Tower Eye are mesmerizing for the observers as it’s really worth seeing the city from the top down (Gharehbaghi & Farnes, 2018). The Sydney Tower Eye get the travellers the orientation of how everything is connected. The travellers must need to explore the historic Rocks Precinct that is located underneath the southern end of the famous Sydney Harbor bridge. In Australia, the Rocks Precinct which is one of the first settlements is home to the city’s oldest building, Cadman’s Cottage. The other interesting spot is the Susannah Place Museum which protects four terrace houses. While the travellers are moving for the tourist spot of the Rock market the Rocks are the charismatic mixture of both the cosmopolitan and the colonial Sydney. The travellers would be wandering the historic streets of the city as they find the artist’s studios, an occasional boutique, craftsman shops and the fine old terrace. The glamour and glitz of Bondi beach are attractive spots for tourists that are easily reached by bus from the center of Sydney. Bondi beach is worth visiting definitively as it is one of the most famous suburbs of the city. The travellers could be occupied with many activities here such as surfing during the visit. Sydney is surrounded by national parks that are packed with wild swimming holes, hiking trails and beautiful waterfalls (Hensher et al., 2021).

Transportation

In Sydney, transportation is offered by the extensive network of public transport modes such as metro, train, bus, ferry and light rail as well as the expensive mode of a network of airports, roadways and cycleways. Sydney’s efficient public transport networks attract travellers and tourists for affordable and enjoyable travelling. On public transport getting around the city could be easier for tourists (Gong et al., 2018). The key part of Sydney’s public transport system is formed by the buses that connect almost all the areas of the city such as those areas without water or rail transport. The NightRide services in Sydney which the network of bus routes operated between midnight to 4:30 am in the city replace most of the train services of the mentioned time period. For the travelers in Sydney Opal is a smartcard ticketing system that could be used for payment. A traveller can travel as much as he seeks on bus, train, ferry and on light rail services with an Adult Opal card within the Opal network. If any traveller wants to drive on Sydney Road, it could be tricky to navigate even with the GPS and the wrong turn could lead to arise issues for the traveler (Ho et al., 2018). Further, the travellers could travel on sightseeing buses, car hire companies and taxis. The sightseeing buses in Sydney which are also called the open-top bus give the tourists the flexibility for planning for a day and way. The tourists could choose for staying on board the entire route and be ready for the scenic spin. This is the best mode of transport for sightseeing the rural monuments of the city and also the areas of special interest. The NSW government is delivering the broadest transport infrastructure program which helps both resolve the transportation issue for the travellers and smooths their trip. In NSW all the trains, new buses and ferries are wheelchair accessible. Further, these are also providing the accession to prams and other mobility devices (Larpruenrudee et al., 2022). In Sydney, there are regional bus services and private bus companies are engaged in running the daily services along the coasts. For the regional and local trains and buses, Sydney’s main terminus is the Central Station at the Railway square which is close to Chinatown. The trains in Sydney are operating to the North to the CBD and again across the harbour to the North Sydney. One traveller can easily travel from Bondi Junction to the South past and also the Sydney Airport by train. The transportation mode of ferries is for those travellers who seek to cross the harbour in a fast and convenient way as ferries offer the fantastic vantage point of Sydney to them (Gharehbaghi & Farnes, 2018). The river ferries are another mode of transport for travellers by which they could take a journey that would be taking time for at least more than an hour depending upon the stops.

Cost

Sydney which is the most expensive place in Australia keeps rising in terms of the high tourist cost. The transportation in Sydney is expensive when it comes to the taxi ride. The taxi ride in the city is significantly more in comparison to the public transport (Chen et al., 2019).

AU$120 is said to be the average price for a single person for accommodation in the city. For the two travellers who travel in Sydney, the average price for the shared hotel room is AU$ 2,040. It costs AU$ 1449 for one individual person who has a travel plan to Sydney for one week. If the traveller travel with his family, the cost per person would go down most often as the price of the kid’s ticket is cheaper comparably and the hotel room could be shared (Crosato et al., 2021). If a traveller would be slower for a longer period of time, then his daily budget could be slowed down. It is interesting that while two persons travel in Sydney together for one month, the budget would be lower in comparison with the individual who travels alone for one week. Road transport will cost the traveler in Sydney much cheaper than the other mode of transport.

Issues while travelling

While the travellers are visiting the city, of Sydney the transportation issue is their primary concern specifically in the case of urban transport. When the networks of urban transport are no longer able to accommodate the volume of movements and traffic congestion occurs (Yazdani et al., 2021). The physical transport framework and the pattern of urban land utilization and the associated trip-generating practices are the determiners of the location of the congested areas. Though the most congestion could be attributed to the overloading, there could be seen other aspects which also need solutions. The increment numbers of private cars, commercial vehicles and public transportation have exposed that the urban roads of the city are inadequate (Ma et al., 2020). The intricate nature of the transport system in Sydney could be arising serious issues for the travellers, such as the long-term car parking could almost be impossible.  The rapid development of private car ownership in the city has also contributed to the congestion issues.

Recommendations

For the improvement of transportation in Sydney investment in a new transport link is required. It is needed to make the existing transport capacity more efficient for the common people and the travellers. The new transport is also necessary for prioritizing the road space for the maximum vehicles like freights and buses as well as for building the infrastructure for encouraging people to cycle and walk. The investment in a new transport link also helps in reducing the personal congestion inside the public transport vehicles which is one of the concerns for the travelers (Glover et al., 2019).

The travellers could use the cabs for visiting the nearby areas such as the parks or historical places such as the Cadmans Cottage which is a heritage-listed former water police station. The taxi services are not only flexible but could also be customized according to the travellers’ requirements. For visiting the historical places in Sydney, the cab services provide opportunities for the travellers to move anywhere they want to visit, unlike public transportation. So, the travellers and tourists who seek to explore the historical places in Sydney are recommended to travel with a private mode of transport. For travelling to the most visited places such as the Opera House in the city the best option is public transport by bus which can take only an hour to reach there from downtown (Glover et al., 2019). To reach the fabulous beach of Bondi in the city the mode of the train is recommended as it takes only a few minutes from the Town Hall to the Bondi Junction and thereby saves a lot of time. To cross the harbors in Sydney the ferries provide the most convenient and fast way to travellers along with the fantastic view of Sydney. Therefore, travellers are recommended to use the transport mode of ferries while crossing the harbours. The facilities for hire are available in the city, so travellers could find a wide range of car rental options in Sydney such as campervans, 4WD and classic cars.

The taxis and water taxis are the other convenient ways of getting around Sydney and the travelers could also get rideshare services. Cycling is one of the suitable ways of visiting the city’s various places and spots by using Ker side bike lanes. In Sydney, cyclists are permitted to move on the maximum multi-lane roads of the city. The tourists could find the routes and more information on the Sydney cycle maps and visit many areas. The travellers who like to visit and view the city more closely are recommended to travel by cycle.  The open top buses are the best options for travellers who seek to visit the city with planning. The open-top buses are for the travellers who seek to travel the inside city views and the rural beauty of the city. Travellers who are likely to travel with their friends and families are recommended to travel by open-top buses.

Conclusion

To conclude travel in Sydney could be one of the most incredible experiences for travellers. There is numerous place which is both attractive and historically rich. The evaluation of historically rich places such as the Susannah Place Museum has been provided which attracts tourists and travellers. The transportation issues due to the congestion must be addressed by the Australian government to resolve the issue and smooth the travellers’ visit to the city. the efficient mode and network of transport options make the travellers both attract and enjoy their visits to the city.
