Format: Individual presentation Length: 15 minutes + Q&A (Equivalent to 3,500 words) Due date: 16-30 September 2021 Summary: The Progress Presentation is an opportunity for you to present on your research and to receive feedback from an audience. |
Progress Presentation Each Masters student will be grouped into a panel of similar topics (3-4), and each member of the panel will speak for 15 minutes. The whole panel will then engage in a Q and A session with the audience. This process is similar to an academic conference. The benefits of engaging in a progress presentation include: Being forced to compile your findings and ideas Defending your research findings for the first time Seeing how an audience responds to your research Receiving feedback Reflecting on how you can best communicate your findings The presentation should focus on the same three components as the progress paper (your rationale, your progress, and your tentative conclusions). This video provides an example of two researchers presenting the context of their study, the approach they have taken to the research, and some conclusions they have reached. You can see how the question and answer section addresses the approach the researcher has taken and the conclusions they have reached (or are able to reach) as a result. The first presentation is also a good example of dealing with technical issues and pushing on with a presentation! Task 4: Final Essay / Thesis |
Format: Individual written Length: 4,000 (DSSC and Grad Cert) 7,000 words (Grad Dip) 10,000-12,500 (Masters) Due date: 30 October, 2021 1159 hrs Summary : This is the final communication of your research. The essay (4,000 words) or thesis (7,000/10,000-12,500 words) is where you explain your research findings in a persuasive way to the reader. It is also intended to form the basis of potential publications. |
