PART I – (50%)

PURPOSE

The objectives of this assignment are to assess learners’ writing skills or capability to prepare a news story and gather information from reliable sources.

REQUIREMENT

  1. Imagine that you are one of the journalists for an independent newspaper in the organisation of your choice. You have been assigned to write news stories for the purpose of publication in the newspaper. Choose ONE current geopolitical issue (for e.g., Climate Change, Middle East Conflict, etc.) and write a print news story about it. Make sure to include an attention-grabbing headline, a lead that summarises the story, and quotes from at least TWO SOURCES in an inverted pyramid format.
  2. Write a news broadcast script for a 2-minute news segment on a current social or political issue of your choice. Practice reading the script aloud to ensure it flows smoothly and is easy to understand. Then, pretend you are a stand-up reporter and record your presentation. Consider adding visual elements like images or video to enhance the story. Save your video in MPEG/MP4/etc. format with a maximum size of 400MB. Then, submit your video through the online system.
  3. Choose ONE topic that you would like to cover. The topic must be different from what you have prepared for Questions 1 and 2 above. Then, conduct an interview with any individual relevant to your chosen topic. Prepare a set of questions for the interview session, take pictures during the interview, and attach them to your assignment.
  4. Based on your answer to Question 3 above, write a feature article using the results of your interview with the chosen individual. Ensure that you include relevant information, quotes, and anecdotes to bring the story to life.

Pastikan anda memasukkan tajuk yang menarik perhatian, pendulu yang meringkaskan cerita dan petikan daripada sekurang-kurangnya DUA SUMBER dan berformat piramid terbalik.
  2. Tulis skrip berita siaran untuk segmen berita 2 minit mengenai isu sosial atau politik terkini pilihan anda. Berlatih membaca skrip dengan kuat untuk memastikan ia mengalir dengan lancar dan mudah difahami. Kemudian, anda berpura-pura sebagai seorang wartawan ‘stand-upper’, rekodkan pembentangan anda. Tambahkan elemen visual seperti imej atau video untuk menambah cerita anda. Save video anda dalam format MPEG/MP4/dll. dengan saiz maksimum 400MB. Kemudian, serahkan video anda melalui sistem dalam talian.
  3. Pilih SATU topik yang anda ingin kupas. Topik tersebut mestilah berbeza dari apa yang telah anda sediakan untuk Soalan 1 dan 2 di atas. Kemudian, kendalikan satu temu bual dengan mana-mana individu yang bersesuaian dengan topik pilihan anda. Sediakan set soalan untuk sesi temu bual, ambil gambar semasa temu bual, dan lampirkan dalam tugasan anda.
  4. Berdasarkan jawapan anda untuk Soalan 3 di atas, tulis satu rencana menggunakan hasil temu bual tersebut bersama dengan individu pilihan itu. Pastikan anda memasukkan maklumat berkaitan, petikan dan anekdot untuk menghidupkan cerita tersebut.
