Simulated business – Bounce Fitness
If you do not have access to an actual workplace, we have created a simulated business environment called Bounce Fitness to allow you to complete the workplace project tasks.  Each workplace task contains instructions to guide you in completing the activity using the Bounce Fitness workplace materials.
Instructions for the Workplace Supervisor/Other Party
To support the student in completing this assessment, your assistance is needed with these tasks:  In Task 1, you will need to participate in a discussion about a specific workplace problem. You will share your knowledge of the problem, answer questions and participate in creative thinking processes (e.g., brainstorming) to assist the student with developing a solution. You will ask questions about the solution and present challenges or objections that the student must address. You will fill out a Participant Testimonial based on their performance.   When observing a student’s performance, in the event the student does not demonstrate the required skills to industry standards, ensure you mark them ‘No’ and provide them feedback and a second attempt.    Depending on their level of their performance, you may:  Let them redo the task immediately after consideration of feedback  Request they undertake further learning and redo the task at a later date  Please note: A qualified trainer and assessor will review and assess all the submitted comments, observation checklists, and assessment evidence to determine the students’ competence and abilities against the unit of competency requirements. A trainer and assessor will ensure each assessment has been sufficiently completed and determine the final assessment outcome.

Task 1: Workplace Problems

Overview
For this task, you will need to identify two (2) problems in your team. These must be problems you can address within your level of responsibility.
Resource requirements
To complete this task, you will require the following resources:  Two team members or two volunteers to roleplay as team members Task 1 Participant Forms Task 1 Meeting Minutes  For those not completing this in an actual workplace, read the scenario below to guide you through these activities.
Scenario
You work as an Office Assistant at Bounce Fitness. It is the year’s busiest season, and two assistants left the business three months ago. Due to the staff shortage, some trainers are helping with the administrative duties until they find replacements and you are the acting team leader.     Problem 1  Some of the trainers have been leaving computers unlocked and logged in when they go on lunch or walk away to help clients. Computers being left unlocked is a big security issue for your company. You remind them to lock their screens or log out when leaving their desk, but they complain that logging back on all the time is a hassle. You have ended up doing it for them. You are spending time locking other’s computer screens so often; the Centre Manager has commented that you are away from your desk too much.     Problem 2  One of the trainers helping with office tasks has complained they cannot train clients, their back and neck are sore, and they blame having to sit at desks in uncomfortable chairs while completing paperwork. This trainer has also commented that the fitness staff are annoyed at having to fulfil the duties of the admin staff. You have noticed they are not pulling their weight, spending time gossiping and talking, or chatting with clients instead.    You feel overwhelmed by the lack of support, and the increased wait times are causing customers to become angry. You ask the Centre Manager when the roles will be filled but she advises that Bounce does not have the budget to replace the staff right now.   You raise the other issues with her and she has asked that you work with the team to resolve them.

Task 1: Workplace Problems

Instructions
Based on the above scenario, or a relevant workplace situation, select two (2) issues you can address within your scope of role.
Prepare questions to ask your team members to help you identify each problem’s key issues and challenges.
Meet separately with:  The team member/s affected by problem one (1) The team member/s affected by problem two (2)
4. In each meeting, you are to:   Use your prepared questions to gather the information you can apply when assessing the problem.   Seek the team’s experience and knowledge on these issues and use a suitable critical and creative thinking technique to develop two (2) solutions for each issue. Agree on set criteria to determine the most suitable option. Work together to discuss solutions to the issue, ensuring the following are considered: The organisational standards that apply The legislative requirements that apply The critical thinking process used How the agreed criteria are addressed  Answer any questions that your team may have about this Respond to any challenges raised by the team Agree on one (1) solution to each problem
Note: The assessment conditions require you to do this on two (2) occasions, which means that these discussions are to be held separately. They can be held consecutively or on separate days as needed.
Based on your discussions, complete the Task 1 Meeting Minutes. In your minutes, document the questions you are asking.
Have your volunteers complete the Task 1 Participant Forms confirming their participation.
After the meeting, ask your volunteers to evaluate and give feedback on the critical thinking process you used and facilitated. This should be recorded at the end of your Task 1 Meeting Minutes for each meeting.
By the end of this task, you should have completed:  ·          Two meetings with your team members to discuss the workplace problems
