Design and Efficacy of a motor behaviour

Weight: 40%

Type of Collaboration: Individual

Due: Monday 1pm , Week 16, June 20th, 2022

Submission: Turnitin Format: This is a written assessment where the content must address each of the criteria detailed below.

You should use all recommended resources, attend all classes and carefully read all subject material, including assessment guidelines and criteria. These practices will aid your learning and performance in this subject.

Length: 2500 words

Curriculum Mode: Applied Project

Rationale

The purpose of this assessment is to develop your ability to critically analyze the overall design and efficacy of a motor behaviour learning experience or laboratory. The assessment will require students to consider the design of the learning task relative to its’ aims and whether the chosen measurement or evaluation variables and techniques enable meaningful interpretation. An understanding of the design, measurement and evaluation of a learning task within a movement context is important as it will aid your ability to determine if the tasks you design are effective and achieve the desired aim relative to the population you, as a sport and exercise scientist or HPE teacher, engage with. This single assessment piece has 2 parts which are related to and build upon one another.

Task Details: You are to design and conduct your own experiment for a novel movement skill as detailed below.

Due: Monday 1pm Week – 16, June 20th, 2022

Worth: 40% Length: 2500words

During the semester, you will complete several scheduled practicals/ labs during class time. These are designed to demonstrate how motor behaviour tasks can be designed, measured, and analyzed. Based on these learning expe riences you will design your own motor behaviour task. You must implement this task with at least four participants and gather, analyze and interpret the data, and discuss the findings relative to published research. You will also reflect upon the application of the learning experience for real world contexts in sport and exercise science or in HPE settings.

Specifically, this assessment will be completed in two parts. Part A requires the design and implementation of a motor learning task, while Part B requires you to reflect upon this learning experience and describe its application to real world contexts.

Task Description and Criteria Part A: Motor Behaviour Task (min1350-max1500words=30%)

Task introduction, purpose, and hypothesis (guide 600words):

This should include the following information:

Design a learning experience that addresses a specific problem, then apply this experience to determine its effectiveness.

Consider the following points:

– Introduce and outline the movement problem, e.g., inaccurate throwing, poor handwriting, kayak paddling imbalance. This problem may be one you create yourself or can be based on a current movement learning problem that you, your team, or a colleague has with current clients, students, or athletes.

– Detail the task’s motor behaviour components: E.g., Catching an object requires the interpretation of information concerning object size and weight, speed, and trajectory of flight in addition to the positioning of the hand, arms, and body relative to the incoming object. Though your example should be more detailed and be supported with references.

– Introduce the movement related variable that you will measure and test in this task, e.g., vision in hand-eye coordination, learning vs performance, decision-making and accuracy. – This should be followed by more specific purpose, e.g., the purpose of this learning experience is to determine if [a type of strategy or technique…] improves performance for the skill……

– Finish this section with a hypothesis of the expected finding.

Task design and procedure (guide 300words):

This should include the following information:

– How do you intend to examine the problem, including the variable/s that you will measure? I.e., task design.

– Equipment/ resources

– Task set up

– Procedure

– Variables that will be measured and scoring system

Results (guide 200 words):

This should include the following information:

This section must include the data from your task, where the raw or blocks of data is presented in table form, while mean data is presented using a suitable graph, e.g., scatter plot, line or column.

– You must also introduce the section and explain how you calculated your results, e.g., mean.

– This section should be short but clearly present your findings in a visual form that is easy to interpret by the reader. Be clear and concise while also applying APA guidelines for the presentation of tables and graphs.

– A note: this section is designed to present your data but not to present your understanding of the data relative to the design or aim. This is done in the discussion section.

– Use the free software program JASP for graph generation and analysis. https://jasp-stats.org/thank-you-fordownloading-jasp-win64

Discussion (guide 400words):

This should include the following information:

– Firstly, address the aim/s of the task. That is: did you find what you expected?

– Once you have established this point your discussion should provide an argument as to why you think the results took this form, based on an analysis of the design and procedure used to address the selected problem.

– Also used published sources e.g., journal papers to support your assertions.

Part B: Real world application reflection (min 900-max1000words=10%)

Introduction and body (guide max200 words):

This should include the following information:

§ Briefly introduce and explain the knowledge and understanding you gained from designing and implementing a learning task for a movement problem. For example, did this experience show you the value of choosing the most appropriate method of evaluation? Or did it help you consider how to design a task based on the needs of the learner? Both? or something else?

Body (guide max600 words):

§ Expand upon the ideas mentioned in the introduction and reflect upon the relevance of being able to analyze the efficacy of a learning experience design and measure variables in real world contexts using example to explain your points.

Conclusion and summary (guide max200words):

This should include the following information

§ Provide a summary of your reflection on the importance of understanding learning task design and the role of measurement in this process.

Note:

– Table data and references are not included in the word count.

– Any words over 2500 will not be read.

– Use the APA 7th edition formatting and referencing guide for this task.

Exemplar: This is a redesigned assessment thus no exemplars are available, however your practical/lab/ tutorial classes and the assessment criteria and rubric are designed to facilitate the development of your understanding and the skills required to complete this task. Therefore, participation in all learning experiences and the reading of all relevant materials is essential. Resources: In addition to reading and subject lectures, your practicals and labs are designed to guide your skill and knowledge development that will assist in the completion of this assessment.
