Western Sydney University, formerly known as the University of Western Sydney, is an Australian university based in Sydney, Australia. The university was founded in 1989 because of the combination of the Nepean College of Advanced Education and the Hawkesbury Agricultural College. in 1989 The Macarthur Institute of Higher Education was incorporated into the university.

In 2015, the university changed its name from the University of Western Sydney to Western Sydney University. The university has five campuses namely Bankstown, Blacktown, Campbelltown, Parramatta, Penrith. The board of trustees is entrusted with running the university and has members from ministerial and academic appointments, an undergraduate and post-graduate student representative.

Student Life

Previously the university has two student organisations, UWS Students’ Association and UWSConnect Ltd. UWSConnect Ltd were a non-profit owned by the university to improve university life by providing bars, cafés, sporting events etc. However, both the organisation had to voluntarily shut down due to budget issues. With the passage of Voluntary Student Unionism legislation, UWS agreed to fund the organisations, but at a reduced level. UWSSA also had asked students to pay a $60 fee on a voluntary basis. The university also publishes the Australian Edition of the Global Media Journal, which is an online journal. It also publishes WSUP news as the student newspaper.

Application Process
