Assignment task: Complete Questions 1 to 4 below.

Q1. FIRE BRIGADE AWARENESS (15%)
1.1. What are the two strategic options available to an Incident Commander at an emergency incident?
1.2. At an emergency incident what is the ideal number of persons an Incident Commander should aim to have reporting directly to them?
1.3. What resources would be deployed to a “Second Alarm” response under the FRNSW alarm response protocols?
1.4. On arrival at a residential house fire how would the Incident Commander typically designate each side of the house?
1.5. At most permanently manned fire stations how many officers and firefighters will be available to respond to an emergency incident?

Q2. EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT (10%)
For a metropolitan fire brigade such as FRNSW, identify the number of staff expected to respond in a typical appliance and list each members rank/role/title.
Detail one task/action that each member would undertake if they were the first arriving FRNSW appliance at an incident.

Q3. PERFORMANCE SOLUTIONS AND THE FIRE BRIGADE (15 %)
3.1. What are the potential implications on fire brigade intervention in each of the following if they were to be proposed as a potential Performance Solution? (Limit your response to two or three sentences each)
a. Location of fire hydrant booster
b. Extended travel distances in a warehouse
c. Reduced FRL of structure
Note: This does not suggest that the above performance solutions are appropriate or acceptable

Q4. FIRE BRIGADE INTERVENTION MODEL (FBIM) (60%)
Undertake an FBIM analysis to determine the time taken from the start of a fire up to the time taken to travel to the set up area (from Chart 1 to the end of Chart 8).
In answering this question, the information is to be tabulated in a format similar to the template provided at the end of this document and also presented on a Gantt chart.
All tasks, activities and times are to be detailed. Resources and staff are to be allocated with each task.
Any assumptions made are to be documented and are to be explained. For dimensions required, e.g. travel distances, heights of stairs, etc., please make reasonable assumptions however be clear on what the value is and what it relates to, e.g. horizontal travel to front door = 35 metres.
NOTE: For this exercise limit your answer to the nearest two (2) fire stations.
