Background

A multinational company called “Andrew & sons” has 4 branch offices around the world. Each of the branch offices has hundreds of hosts.

This assessment has two parts, Part A and Part B. You must complete both parts.

Part A: Design an IP Addressing scheme for a given scenario.

The company would like to restructure their existing network into a new IP addressing scheme to deploy on their various branches.

This task has been assigned to you by your supervisor. Host requirement for each branch is listed below.

  • Branch 1 should accommodate 60 hosts.
  • Branch 2 should accommodate 55 hosts.
  • Branch 3 should accommodate 40 hosts.
  • Branch 4 should accommodate 31 hosts.

You are given 200.168.100.0/24 as the base network address to design the IP subnetting scheme for the company.

Tasks

Design the IP subnetting scheme as per the above-listed requirements.

Task 1: Calculate the subnetting information.

Calculate the followings and complete Table 1.

  • Number of subnet bits (borrowed bits) required to accommodate the addressing requirements
    • Total number of subnet
    • The new subnet mask of the IP subnetting scheme
    • Number of remaining host bits
    • Number of hosts per subnet
    • Useable number of hosts per subnet
Number of subnet bits (borrowed bits)
Total number of subnets
New subnet mask (in dotted decimal notation)
Number of remaining host bits
Number of hosts/subnet.
Useable number of hosts/subnet

Task 2: Derive subnetwork address

Derive the subnetwork addresses as per the given answers in Task 1 and based on the following conditions. All calculations/methods that you have used to derive the answers should be included as part of your answer. Complete Table 2 with your answers.

  • Use 0th subnet for Branch 1 Network.
    • Use 1st subnet for Branch 2 Network.
    • Use 2nd subnet for Branch 3 Network.
    • Use 3rd subnet for Branch 4 Network.

Task 3:    Calculating the host address ranges

Calculate the host address range and useable host address range of subnetworks derived in Task 2. All calculations/methods that you have used to derive the answers should be included as part of your answer. Complete Table 3 with your answers.

Part B: Re-design an IP addressing scheme as per changed requirements.

During the next five years, there were two other companies acquired by “Andrew & Sons.” Moreover, the company experienced immense growth in production, the number of branches, and the number of employees.

Altogether there are 10 branches now.

Host requirement for each branch is as follows.

  • Branch 1 should accommodate 2050 hosts.
  • Branch 2 should accommodate 2100 hosts.
  • Branch 3 should accommodate 4094 hosts.
  • Branch 4 should accommodate 1030 hosts.
  • Branch 5 should accommodate 950 hosts.
  • Branch 6 should accommodate 4092 hosts.
  • Branch 7 should accommodate 2049 hosts.
  • Branch 8 should accommodate 1025 hosts.
  • Branch 9 should accommodate 4094 hosts.
  • Branch 10 should accommodate 900 hosts.

The company would like to re-design their IP addressing scheme to facilitate this new requirement. This task has been assigned to you by your supervisor.

You are given 170.168.0.0/16 as the base network address to design the IP subnetting scheme for the company.

Tasks

Design the IP subnetting scheme as per the above-listed requirements.

Task 1: Calculate the subnetting information.

Calculate followings. All calculations/methods that you have used to derive the answers should be included as part of your answer — complete Table 1 with your answers.
