Detailed Information: Reflective Assignment
Due Date: Tuesday 5th September 2023 at 4:00 pm (AWST).
Marks: 30% of the total marks for this unit.
Assignment: The assignment will comprise two questions. Students must answer all parts of both questions.
Examinable topics: The cultural immersion exercise and/or the cultural immersion lecture or small group (Carrolup/John Curtin Gallery) and the content and topics covered in the first six (6) weeks of this unit: Topics 1-4.
Word limit: 1,500 words: Material that exceeds the prescribed assignment length will be ignored in the marking process. There is no penalty for being under the word limit. However, an assessment under the word limit may lack sufficient depth of content and/or analysis.
Footnotes: Footnotes are NOT included in the word count. For the avoidance of any doubt, headings are included in the word count, as are quotations.
Bibliography: A bibliography/reference list must be included in the assignment. The bibliography is NOT included in the word count.
Cover Sheet: The cover sheet is NOT included in the word count.
Referencing: See Australian Guide to Legal Citation, 4th edition (AGLC4):
Formatting: 12-point Times New Roman font; 1.5 line spacing. All pages should be numbered.
Submission: Paste the assessment cover sheet as the first page of your assessment as text (not as a picture). The cover sheet is located on the Blackboard site (under the ‘Assessment’ tab).
Save your complete assessment as a Microsoft Word document (not PDF) and name the file as follows [Unit Name]-[Your Surname][Your Initials].
Submission method:
Turnitin via Blackboard. To be submitted in a Microsoft Word document format (.docx, .doc, etc.). The submission link will be made live before the due date.
Criteria and Marking:
The reflective assignment will be marked according to a marking scheme that will allocate marks for the following aspects:
- Identification of the issues raised by the question or topic.
- Knowledge of the law relevant to the issues.
- Critical analysis of the key aspects of the assignment/essay.
- Coherence and persuasiveness of the student’s own argument or line of reasoning.
- Reference to relevant literature and legal materials evidencing research.
- Critical reflection on the cultural immersion exercise and/or the cultural immersion lecture or small group (Carrolup/John Curtin Gallery).
- Structure, flow and stylistic competence (including the use of language and expressions), i.e. writing in a concise and logical manner with correct spelling, punctuation, grammar and syntax (sentence structure).
- Use of accurate citations in footnotes and bibliography.
- Respecting the formatting requirements outlined above.
Answers should demonstrate that, overall, the student understands the law or material relevant to the question or topic and that the student can apply the law or material to develop a logical and well-written argument, learning or reflection.
