LO4: Apply understanding of the basic principles of common research methods to the construction of an appropriate research design for a specific research question.
LO5: Create an appropriate research proposal for an individually selected research question and approach.
Assessment Task
You are required to create and then present a research proposal build on the work you have already done in Assessment One. It is expected to meet the academic, methodological and procedural requirements of a robust research proposal.
Instructions:
- This assignment begins with your own research topic and question, which then informs the development of a robust research plan.
- This assessment has two parts including Part A-Presentation and Part B-Written Research Proposal.
- You must write your own unique research question(s) or hypotheses and develop your own research proposal. Do not write a research proposal that is about an existing piece of research unless you are to do a replication study.
- Your proposal should show evidence of academic literature that primarily uses scholarly research papers, e.g., peer reviewed journal articles, books, and/or book chapters.
- Your proposal should clarify the research design by illustrating research methodology, data collection technique(s), sampling strategies, data analysis method(s), and research quality.
- List any ethical considerations.
- Describe limitations to your proposal.
- Identify any potential theoretical and/or practical contribution(s).
- Present your research proposal within 10 minutes. You need to submit a voice-over PPT to the Moodle Dropbox. The presentation is to be submitted 3 weeks earlier than the proposal, so feedback can be provided to help you refine the written proposal.
- Do not collect any data at this stage as the proposal is only a research plan.
Research proposal presentation:
- No live presentation is organised.
- You are required to submit a voice-over presentation.
- You are to present your proposal verbally within 10 minutes, explaining the rationale and manageability of your research proposal.
Writing and Academic Integrity:
- You should use an academic writing style, clear expression, and accurate spelling, grammar and punctuation.
- Your complete proposal must be submitted by the due date through Turnitin. No academic misconduct (such as plagiarism and ghost writing) is allowed.
- You expected to write critically and independently.
- In this assessment, you must not use generative artificial intelligence (AI) to generate any materials or content in relation to the assessment task.
- Only sources written in English are allowed in the assessment.
