
Small group presentation and written report/brochure or creation of a multimodal text on a chosen genre to demonstrate an understanding of the role of children’s literature in selecting, developing strategies for and enjoyment of reading to enhance understanding of a real life issues using picture books and children’s novels including Indigenous literature. PST’s select and justify a choice of at least 3 texts suitable for Upper Primary readers.
You need to read two picture books and one novel, suitable for upper primary (years 3-6).
- Each person in the pair can read one picture book and write about it.
- Both people need to read and contribute to writing about the novel.
- All three books should work together as a group to highlight the genre features and the social justice issue.
- The books need to be Australian and published within the last 5 years (to reflect our historical, cultural and social contexts)
Make a book teaser, a video that showcases your books and introduces them to your audience:
- Record a 4 min video introducing the books that you will elaborate on in your brochure.
- Post it to youtube and include the link in your brochure. Make sure the youtube listing is an active link to a private youtube video. Please make sure of these details. If the marker can’t watch your clip, they can’t mark it.
- The videos will be watched by your peers in Week 9 tutorials.
- Be creative in the way you showcase the books.
- The aim is to persuade the viewer to read the books and your brochure.
Create a brochure in Canva, Prezi, Publisher etc. Include the link to your video presentation. Upload this document to turnitin.
The brochure needs to:
- Explain how each book conforms to the chosen genre. (with examples from the book and reference to the set text)
- Explain the theme of the book. (with examples)
- Include suggested strategies for enjoying the book and highlighting the theme/social justice issue. (three different strategies are needed, one for each book) (with reference to scholarly sources, not websites)
