Assignment 3: Millwork Package and Model
- Due no later than 11:30 p.m. ET on Day 7 of Unit 8
- Worth 25% of final grade
Description
For this assignment, you’ll be completing a full set of millwork drawings, also known as shop drawings, along with a full set of specifications to redesign the cabinetry of your kitchen and bath. You’ll be redesigning the millwork only. Do not move any walls. You may relocate plumbing, appliances, equipment, and outlets within reason. Your millwork package must include the following:
- Cover page
- Floor plan views
- All elevation views
- Reflected ceiling plan showing lighting and switching
- Detail drawings for each cabinet type (base, sink, upper, pantry, etc.) as needed
- Coordinate all drawings with proper drafting standards, scales, symbols, keys, hatching, line weights, line types, annotations, and dimensions
- In addition, include full specifications for all millwork finishes, countertop selections, hardware, appliances, fixtures, equipment, and accessories
- *Use a title block for all pages
Next you’ll build a 3D model of a cabinet of your choice. Select a base cabinet (standard drawer over door or sink base for example) and create a scale physical model. You can use foamcore, chipboard, basswood or equivalent to create the scale model. One side of the base cabinet model should be open to show the interior. Create as many physical layers as needed to communicate the design. For example, foamcore can be used to represent the plywood or MDF of the underlayment, with paper representing wood veneer. Your model should be accurate and as close to scale as possible.
