Assessment title: 1500 word essays (x4)

Essay Topics:

Essay 1: Psychopharmacology Due Date: 15th July 2021 Criteria for marking: See rubric (Appendix A) Medications are one aspect of mental health care and treatment. Discuss the role of the mental health nurse in psychopharmacological interventions and implication for use of medications. Utilisation of case examples is highly encouraged and reflections on learnings from the related study day should also be included. Identification of the key skills utilised by mental health nurses when psychopharmacological interventions are utilised should be identified and explored.

Essay 2: De-escalation Due Date: 25th August 2021 Criteria for marking: See rubric (Appendix B) Engagement, rapport building and the ability to de-escalate are key skills for mental health nurses. Utilising a reflective approach consider the clinical skills required to effectively de-escalate situations. Use of a clinical example is highly encouraged to better demonstrate your understanding of the complexities involved in de-escalating a person in a heightened state. Reflections and learnings gained through presentations on de-escalation should also be included in essay.

Essay 3: Dual Diagnosis Due Date: 22th October 2021 Criteria for marking: See rubric (Appendix C) Substance use and substance use disorders commonly co-occur with mental health problems. Reflecting on why this may occur, you will identify common tools utilised in mental health care to manage the use and withdrawal of alcohol and others substances. Identify the key clinical skills which a mental health nurse may utilise when working with a person with co-occurring alcohol and/or substance use. Use of a clinical example is highly encouraged to demonstrate the linking of theory to practice and reflection on learning from study days undertaken should also be included in your essay.

Essay 4: Person Centred Care Due Date: 17th December 2021 Criteria for marking: See rubric (Appendix D) Person Centred Care is core to the work undertaken in health care. Utilising case examples demonstrate your understanding of how mental health nurses provide person centred care and the key aspect of this.

Reflect on recovery-oriented principles and how person centred care is inherent in this approach. Learnings and relevant content from the Foundations in Family Work study day should also be included in your essay as family and carer involvement is involved in person centred care.

Referencing: You MUST use in-text referencing with a reference list as cited according to APA 6th referencing conventions.
