Trimester 2 2022 Assessment Task 2 Part B – Teamwork Reflection (Individual)
DUE DATE AND TIME: Wednesday, 7 September 2022 by 8:00pm (AEST) PERCENTAGE OF FINAL GRADE: 10%
WORD COUNT: 750 – 800 words
Description
Teamwork is one of the vital components of many workplaces and the ability to demonstrate teamwork in the learning environment is an important component of your university education. Knowing what elements contribute to an effective team and how you personally contribute to the team’s success are important skills you’ll develop in this unit and through this task. This understanding of your own capacity to work as a member of a team will stand you in good stead in current and future workplaces.
This task provides you with an opportunity to reflect on your contribution to the success (or otherwise) of the
team and its final product (Part 2A). You are also to reflect on your teammates’ contributions to the team.
Specific Requirements
Using the MAA703 Reflection Submission Template, evaluate each of your team members and write a brief response to the question of why you would (or would not) work with them again. You will then respond reflectively to the following three questions:
- In your self-assessment you noted that others either would or would not want to work with you in the future. Justify your response providing concrete examples from working in this team that help explain your response. Aim to write 250 words.
- What elements of teamwork ensured your team worked effectively to produce the final product? If your team did not work effectively, what elements of teamwork were missing? What did you learn about what makes teamwork successful from engaging in this assessment task? What will you do differently next time you engage in teamwork? Aim to write 250 words.
- What have you learnt about yourself with respect to your capacity to work as a team member that will help in future team projects (either in the university context or in the workplace)? In your response, write about both your skills and your attributes in relation to teamwork. How and when have you also demonstrated leadership within the team? Aim to write 250 words.
It is expected that each student contributes and participates evenly in the completion of the team tasks. To this end, it is important that you submit, as evidence, your specific contribution to the written report. See the Evidence section below for more details.
Your reflection should be between 750-800 words in total. It is important that you do not exceed the word count (indicate the word count on the title page of your submission).
The sooner you form a team and register the team, the sooner you can get started.
Learning Outcomes
This task allows you to demonstrate achievement of the unit learning outcomes. The ULOs are aligned with specific graduate learning outcomes – that is, the skills and knowledge graduates are expected to have upon completion of their studies – and this assessment task is an important tool in determining achievement of those outcomes.
If you do not demonstrate achievement of the unit learning outcomes, you will not be successful in this unit. It is a good practice to familiarise yourself with the ULOs and GLOs as they provide guidance on the knowledge,
understanding and skills you’re expected to demonstrate upon completion of the unit. In this way they can be
used to guide your study.

ULO 3: Demonstrate individual responsibility for planning and achieving team goals in completing the case study analysis. | GLO7: Teamwork |
Submission
There is a reflection template (MAA703_T1_2022-Assignment 2 Part B – Reflection Submission Template.docx) in CloudDeakin and you are strongly encouraged to use that for your submission. It contains a title page. Ensure you fill in the required details (name, student ID, word count) on the title page and in the header of the document (page 2). The document you upload must be a Word document. If you choose not to use the template provided, ensure you include all the requisite details on the title page.
You need to submit your reflection and evidence in the individual Assignment Dropbox in the MAA703 CloudDeakin unit site on or before the due date.
When uploading your assignment, name your document using the following syntax: Surname_FirstName_DeakinID_MAA703.doc (or ‘.docx’). The following is an example for your reference: ‘Jones_Barry_123456789_MAA703.doc’.
Submitting a hard copy of this assignment is not required.
You must keep a backup copy of every assignment you submit, until the marked assignment has been returned to you. In the unlikely event that one of your assignments is misplaced, you will need to submit your backup copy.
Any work you submit may be checked by electronic or other means for the purposes of detecting collusion and/or plagiarism.
When you submit an assignment through your CloudDeakin unit site, you will receive an email to your Deakin email address confirming that it has been submitted. You should check that you can see your assignment in the Submissions view of the Assignment Dropbox folder after upload, and check for, and keep, the email receipt for the submission.
Use of appendices are required as part of the evidence for this task.
Evidence
It is important that you provide evidence to support what you are claiming in your reflection as well as direct evidence of your contribution to the written report.
This evidence is to be included as an appendix to your reflection. If the evidence is missing from your reflection you will be severely limiting your capacity to succeed in this task.
The first piece of evidence you MUST include is your contribution to the written report. Which part of the report did you write and what other support did you contribute? For example, note if you proofread the final report, or if it was your responsibility to format the report, or to ensure the reference list was correct.
As well as direct evidence of your contribution to the final report, it is also important you provide evidence of your contributions to the functioning of the team, including your interactions with others. This could be in the form of journal entries, emails, copies of feedback provided, images and/or audio content.
If, at your first meeting, you develop an Action Plan you could submit this as evidence to support your reflection. The Action Plan will help you remember what was decided and what each team members agreed to contribute to the task. At every subsequent meeting someone should be delegated with the task of recording discussions and decisions made. These notes (the minutes of your meetings) should be distributed to all team members as soon after the meeting as possible using a collaborative communication method such as OneDrive or One Note.
To this end, a Teamwork template (MAA703_T1_2022 Assignment 2 Part B – Teamwork Template.docx) has been developed which you can use as part of your evidence. You can use this template to help get the first team meeting organized.
Other sources of evidence that support your reflection should also be included. If, for example, you provided feedback to a team member, include a copy of the feedback, plus the date it was given, and the form in which it was given. If you have conflict in the team, record why there was conflict, and how it was resolved. If a team member takes a long time to reply to emails or conversations, keep evidence of this.
Evidence is not counted as part of the word count for this task.
Evidence must be attached as an appendix to your reflection.
Marking and Feedback
The marking rubric for this task is below and also available in the MAA703 CloudDeakin unit site – in the Assessment folder (under Assessment Resources).
It is always a useful exercise to familiarise yourself with the criteria before completing any assessment task. Criteria act as a boundary around the task and help identify what assessors are looking for specifically in your submission. The criteria are drawn from the unit’s learning outcomes ensuring they align with appropriate graduate attribute/s.
Identifying the standard you aim to achieve is also a useful strategy for success and to that end, familiarising yourself with the descriptor for that standard is highly recommended.
Students who submit their work by the due date will receive their marks and feedback on CloudDeakin 15 working days after the submission date.
Extensions
Extensions will only be granted for exceptional and/or unavoidable circumstances outside the student’s
control.
Students seeking an extension for an assignment prior to the due date should apply directly to the Unit Chair by completing the Assignment and Online Test Extension Application Form. Requests for extensions will not be considered after 12 noon Wednesday 31 August 2022. Applications for special consideration after the due date must be submitted via StudentConnect.
Late submission
The following marking penalties will apply if you submit an assessment task after the due date without an approved extension: 5% will be deducted from available marks for each day up to five days, and work that is submitted more than five days after the due date will not be marked and will receive 0% for the task.
‘Day’ means working day for paper submissions and calendar day for electronic submissions. The Unit Chair may refuse to accept a late submission where it is unreasonable or impracticable to assess the task after the due date.
Calculation of the late penalty is illustrated in the example below: assuming that the assignment is due on a Thursday at 8:00pm
- 1 day late: submitted after Thursday 11:59pm and before Friday 11:59pm– 5% penalty.
- 2 days late: submitted after Friday 11:59pm and before Saturday 11:59pm – 10% penalty.
- 3 days late: submitted after Saturday 11:59pm and before Sunday 11:59pm – 15% penalty.
- 4 days late: submitted after Sunday 11:59pm and before Monday 11:59pm – 20% penalty.
- 5 days late: submitted after Monday 11:59pm and before Tuesday 11:59pm – 25% penalty.
Dropbox closes the Tuesday after 11:59pm AEST time.
