Assessment Description
The purpose of this individual assessment is to foster students’ capacity to utilise a systems-thinking approach to develop an understanding of the Australian health care systems and their ability to provide care and prevent illness. Students will develop critical thinking skills to debate the ethical issues that can arise in managing healthcare systems. They will utilise these skills to develop plans and recommendations to create ways for systems and management challenges to be resolved. In addition, they will make an inventory of resource requirements that apply to various healthcare settings, focusing on vulnerable populations.
Assessment Instructions
This assessment requires students to participate in a weekly online discussion forum via MyKBS actively. Weekly participation, in this case, is indicated by:
The posting of a detailed response to the weekly set question. This response should be between 100 (minimum) to 300 (maximum) words in length and referenced appropriately.
AND
At least one response to another student’s post (a minimum 100 words and up to, but not exceeding, 300 words). This response should refer to the issues and topics raised in the post and engage the student in debate/discussion.
As such, you are required to make at least two postings. The first is to initiate in response to the weekly set question, and further postings are to be a response (or responses) to another student’s posts. Thus, you must make at least one response to another student’s post every week.
The discussion topics will be visible under the Discussion Forum icon for each week. The grade will be calculated using the attached grading rubric as a guide. The regularity and quality of the responses will contribute to 25% of the final grade. All discussions are to be posted by 23.55 (AEST) on Sunday at the end of each week.
Experience has shown that posts made early in the week have a higher likelihood of genuine engagement and authentic discussion with other students. These posts have consistently been awarded higher marks than those posted just before the deadline, where opportunities to debate and discuss the weekly topics are hindered due to a lack of time and engagement opportunities. Be aware, late posts will not be favourably graded.
Assessment Submission
All posts are to be completed online. Please do not email your posts to your workshop facilitator unless you have explicitly been asked to do so in the event of a technological problem.
Participation in the online discussion forum is required for the full trimester, with five weeks being graded (weeks 5 – 10 inclusive). It is important that students post each week as the questions posed each week build upon previous weeks’ learning. Students who enrol late to the class should make arrangements with their lecturer to catch up on missed posts.
Late assignment submission penalties
No late submissions are allowed. For Special Consideration requests, you can review KBS’s Assessment Policy via the following link
