Report Writing Template

Use this template to help you to plan the first draft of your research report into a learning theory.  It is a guide to remind you what to include in each section.

Remember the completed version should be 800-1000 words.  You must include a citation for each source that you use as well as the full reference at the end of the report.

The final copy of the report will also have a title page and a table of contents.

The draft is due on Friday 26th April.  Please submit as a word document to the dropbox for assessment task 5.

Report title “Examine how the chosen learning theory can inform teaching and learning.  Identify the specific subject areas and groups of learners appropriate to the theory and analyse the key approaches and learning activities which reflect it.  (800-1000 words)
Section 1 1.0 Introduction
Write one or two broad sentences to introduce the topic and define the key terms. Think about the following What can learning theories help to explain? Why are learning theories important in teaching and learning? How can learning theories assist teachers in lesson planning and/or managing groups of students?
The learning theories explain how students comprehend and retain knowledge during their learning. Behaviourism is one of the learning theories that holds all behaviours learnt via interactions with the environment, which is referred to as conditioning. This theory had been originated by a Russian physiologist Ivan Pavlov in 1849. In the classical conditions for Pavlov’s experiment, he observed that his dogs were capable of predicting some aspects of his experiment, and therefore, his dogs would salivate when the bell rang for food. The importance of learning theories for a teacher is to engage with all groups of students, use multiple pedagogies to assist different students’ learning styles, and use different pedagogies based on the subject in order to meet the requirements and learning styles of the students. On the other hand, the importance of learning theories for a student is to recognise how information and knowledge of concepts is utilised and created and how learning occurs. Learning theories demonstrate vital strategies to assist teachers in bringing out a class and managing groups of students by being able to create activities and tasks. This benefits teachers since it allows them to think about how a day may be planned and used to base a student’s development, it also displays students’ ability to identify which areas require improvement or more practise.
Write 1 or 2 broad sentences to introduce the chosen learning theory Think about the following Where does the theory originate from, who wrote it and when? (A book or series of experiments?)What are the main principles of the theory?
This report will examine how learning occurs according to the theory, the specific subject areas and groups of learners appropriate to the theory, key approaches and teaching strategies linked to the learning theory, and learning activities linked to the theory which could be employed by teachers.
Thesis statement What will this report cover? Write a sentence indicating what sections the report will cover and in what order. If you are not sure how to start, try one of these sentence starters. “This report will focus on…” “This paper will analyse…” “This report will examine…” “This paper will demonstrate…”
This report will demonstrate how learning occurs according to the theory, the specific subject areas and groups of learners appropriate to the theory, key approaches and teaching strategies linked to the learning theory, and learning activities linked to the theory which could be employed by teachers.
