Task Instructions
Type of Product (tick which applies) ü Project ü Report ☐ Portfolio ☐ Case study
Summary and Purpose of Assessment   This product assessment task is the first of two assessment tasks students need to complete satisfactorily, in order to be deemed competent for this unit.  You will need to use the marking rubric below to make sure you have completed all tasks and answered all questions for this assignment.   For this assessment task you will be required to create a fully customised Website for a small business in consultation with a client, in this case your teacher.  You will learn some of the key features of WordPress and how a simple site can be planned, configured, developed and tested.
Assessment Instructions   Part A- Practical Task For this assessment task you will be required to create a fully customised Website for a small business in consultation with a client, in this case your teacher. The website will be created using a Hosting platform where you will have access to in and out of the classroom. You will work individually on this project. Initially you will follow a simple case study each week in class based on set tasks, but you will also develop some extra customisations, such as a custom theme with CSS styling and even a small online store.  You will also have the opportunity to develop features of your own choice.
Part B Knowledge Once your Website has been completed and validated you will be required to answer the questions and complete the documentation to explain configuration, customising and validating which will need to be submitted for assessment purposes.
Where Students will be provided class time to work on this assessment, however, it is expected that the majority of this assessment will be completed outside of class. The practical observation will take place during class time.
How Students will be assessed against the criteria as listed in the marking guide in Section B of this task and how well they answer the questions asked by the assessor. To achieve a satisfactory result student will need to address all criteria satisfactorily.   There are 2 parts to this assessment task, you will be required to complete:   Part A: Create a fully customised Website for a small business and use the checklist to confirm tasks completed Part B: You will answer questions relating to installing, creating, and troubleshooting the Website
Part A: Website Creation The basic scenario for this project will be as follows: A small business based on a particular case study will specialise in certain products and services that they will sell to the public. The products and services that the business deals with will be discussed in the tutorials each week. You will be expected to implement several basic requirements into your site, as specified below. You will essentially create a Website showcasing a typical small business.  Media such as image galleries, sliders and videos will be included throughout.  A contact form will be required as well. The basic requirements will include the following pages: Home, Contact Us, Products/Services (with several sub-menu items), Links, Our Staff and a blog page. After creating the initial required pages and menu, you will need to employ a variety of plugins in order to create image galleries and sliders, a contact form and a simple shopping cart, as well as implement SEO on at least two of the posts or pages.  Required plugins will include WooCommerce and Yoast SEO. As you are developing your Website, you will be asked to demonstrate your site in class.  You will of course receive feedback regarding the appearance and functionality of your site, particularly in relation to the client requirements. Towards the end of the project you will be asked to develop further customisations of your own choice.  These will include selecting an attractive and responsive theme and customising your theme’s appearance, including the header and logo.  CSS customisations will also be required.  Special plugins will also be required.
