COURSE: PROJECT MANAGEMENT
For this individual project, you will study a project from your current job, previous job, personal situation or community service, and prepare a report based on the following general structure. Some components of the structure may vary from one type of project to another. You may add more information in your report as you see appropriate. The project you select should have minimum 15 and maximum 25 tasks.
Report Structure:
• Brief introduction of the company/organization (use pseudonym; not the real name of the company/organization) and its environment (such as industry, regulatory agencies, etc.)
• Background information of the project o What is this project? o What is its purpose? o Why is it important? o What are the deliverables? o What are the constraints and assumptions?
- Project Activity Analysis– o Provide brief descriptions of all activities in the project o Discuss the relationship among these activities o Give three-time estimates—Optimistic, Pessimistic and Most likely—for these activities. Explain the method you used to arrive at these estimates. o Prepare the project action plan – Work Breakdown Structure o Two cost estimates – Explain the method you used to arrive at these estimates.
- How much each activity would normally cost?
- If we need to speed it up, what would be the extra cost for each unit of time and how many units of time that it can be maximum accelerated?
- Project Scheduling Report o AON network – Use expected time for the activity duration o Gantt chart o Discuss key findings
- What is the project completion time?
- Which activities are critical activities?
- Project Risk Analysis o What is the probability that the project will take longer than 115% of its expected completion time? o What is the probability that the project will finish in less than 90% of its expected completion time?
- Project Budgeting Report o Budgeted costs using earliest start time o Budgeted costs using latest start time o Budget uncertainty issues
- Project Acceleration Report o Accelerate your project by 4 time-units (For example, if your time-unit is week, accelerate your project by 4 weeks) o Identify the activities that should be accelerated and discuss its effects on the critical path in each round of acceleration. o Discuss the cost implications
Report Format:
• It should be typed in Ariel (or Helvetica or equivalent font), 10-point size, Single spaced, 1” margin on all sides.
• There is no limit on the length of the report.
