ASSESSMENT 1 – PROJECT OUTLINE
I will be undertaking a literature review on terrestrial-lagoon nutrient cycling. This research will be providing a better understanding on nutrient cycling interactions to inform vegetation management around lagoons.
I intend to explore most recent studies on nutrient input in a semi-enclosed water system (lagoon, estuary, lakes), the effects of these terrestrial inputs, and the cycling of the nutrients around the systems. The aim of this report is to provide a holistic assessment of the influx of nutrients from land and how it influences the water quality to achieve this I would consider the vegetation around these water systems, and its management this would infer looking into the leaf litter.
Proposed Structure of Report Including Key Literatures to be Used.
- TITLE OF REPORT
literature review on terrestrial-lagoon nutrient cycling.
- ABSTRACT 250 words
Containing the concise summary of the main findings, explaining the problem and what the report aims to solve, this will include the approach used for the research giving a generalized view of all the key points, findings, implications of the research.
- INTRODUCTION in 300 words
Including the importance of the research.
- METHODOLOGY 250 words
Literature selection criteria.
- MAIN BODY presenting research finding in 2500- 3000 words. Areas of research includes;
- Morphology of lagoons exploring the inhomogeneity, characteristics and, vegetation types around lagoon, including the limnology of Australian lagoons[SW1] especially the features of Manly lagoon.
- The factors regulating influx of terrestrial litter into lagoons.
- Evaluation of organic litter pollution, its sources and processing rate(decomposition) in lagoons.
- Distribution of nutrient in lagoons and coastal water systems.
- Eutrophication as a result of terrestrial organic matter in lagoons[SW2] .
- Factors influencing eutrophication.
- Best solution(s) to manage the vegetation of the catchment and riparian margin to reduce the amount of, and modify the type of, organic input/leaf litter.
- Also referring to the water quality in lagoons and recommendation for improvements
- SUMMARY OF MAIN FINDINGS 400-500
