Briefing Session for HYP Students

- Fisrt Kick Off Meeting of Supervisors with Students: 26 Sep onwards

- Duration: Span in 2 Semesters from Sep 2022 to April 2023
- HYP Final Submission Online Date: 6th April 2023
- Contact Hours: 9 hours for each student with Supervisor
- Supervisory/Consultancy Method: Face to Face in MDIS premise (preferred), Zoom, Skype, Google-meet, Watsapp, Emails etc.
- Signing of Project Log Sheet after each meet-up by both student and supervisor. All Project Log Sheets to be submitted to own respective Supervisors after completion.
- HYP Supervisor Student assignment ratio 1 Supervisor : 6 student
- All HYP requirements are stated in the HYP Guide Book
- Research Topic revolves around areas of Safety, Health and Environment.
- Can adopt the Research Proposal used in UTRP module. Able to change topic of research based on consultation with Supervisor.
- Students are required to find a host company ad get approval from company to conduct the HYP. Company Letter with Company Letter Head and company stamp with Management Signature.
- Those without any company, can be able to do outside in public or MDIS premise. Example projects are: traffic safety management, fatigue of driving, risks in canteen operations, noise measurements in noise public environment etc.
- Students are required to obtain Ethics Approval from the Research Ethics Committees (REC) namely the MDIS REC and LBU REC.
- Dateline of ethics documents submission: 14 Nov 2021
- HYP supervisors to discuss with student on research ethical issues if any and sign on the Ethics Documents.
- Ethics Documents are required to be sign by HYP Supervisors: Ethics Stage 1 Document and Ethics Stage 2 Document and Research Risk Assessment Document.
- CAT 1 & CAT 2 Research Ethics Level are allowed. CAT 3 is not allowed.
- CAT 1 – Literature study or library research solely. Content analysis for example.
- CAT 2 – Human interactions/involvements or observations involved. Examples include interviews, survey questionnaires, observations etc.
• CAT 3 – Human intrusions. Examples of testing clinical trials for vaccines on human subjects, testing of safety equipment on human etc.
- Research Ethics Stage 1 Form (signed by HYP Supervisor and Student) (e- signature allow)
- Research Ethics Stage 2 Form (signed by HYP Supervisor and Student) (e- signature allow)
- Risk Assessment for Project (signed by HYP Supervisor and Student) (e-
signature allow)
- Company Approval Letter (Signed by Company Management and with Company Stamp and Company Logo Heading)
- Research Proposal/Protocol
- Sample Survey Questionnaire (with coding) (in all related languages)
- Sample Interview Questionnaire (with coding) (in all related languages)
- Sample Consent Form (with coding) (in all related languages)
- Can follow Final Report Template (Content Page) given to students.
- Length (excluding Abstract, References, Appendices and data contained in
figures, charts and tables): 6,000 to 8,000 words.
- Font: Calibri, Arial or similar simple font.
- Font Size: 11 – 12 point.Line Spacing: 1.5 lines.Justification: Both sides.Paragraph Separation: 1 line.Number the chapters and start on a new page.Number Sub-Headings if you wish, but don’t make things too complicated.Number pages.Include a Table of Contents.Do not number the paragraphs.Include a copy of the Protocol/Research Proposal as an appendix.
- Include other appendices if they help to inform the reader. Do not include irrelevant material, or place material in the appendices to avoid exceeding the word limit.
- All dissertation HYP Final Report will be submitted by students
online in Blackboard before 8th April 2022.
- Submit according to your Supervisor Name Link such as Yu_Ting_HYP Final Report or Khalid_HYP Final Report or Rosman_HYP Final Report.
- Late or Delay submission link available for those late submissions or delayed. Late submissions without any valid reasons will have penalty of 5 marks deduction for every 2 days late until 10 days late where it is considered as non-submission.
- Extension only given up to 10 days for valid reasons such as medical grounds. Extension with valid reasons need to be applied and submit email to Course Module Lead MDIS. After 10 days, students need to submit mitigation form and apply to LBU Academic Panel. LBU Academic Panel will decide on case by case basis on valid grounds for any further extension given. Mitigation forms can be obtained from Student Coordinator.
- Each Supervisor will mark their own student HYP Final Report Script in accordance to HYP Marking Rubric.
- Total marks is 100 marks (100%)
- First mark given is provisional marks only.
- There will be 2nd marker for HYP scripts and moderation by LBU Academic Panel for Final Marks.
