
INTRODUCTION
THE INTENT OF THIS ASSESSMENT
This Assessment Kit provides the instructions and guidelines to determine the skills and knowledge required to lead and manage effective workplace relationships.
It applies to individuals in leadership or management who have a prominent role in establishing and managing processes and procedures to support workplace relationships taking into account the organisation’s values, goals and cultural diversity.
At this level work will normally be carried out within complex and diverse methods and procedures, which require the exercise of considerable discretion and judgement, using a range of problem solving and decision making strategies.

BACKGROUND TO THE ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS
The following is the performance evidence and knowledge evidence needed to confirm competency in this unit.
The candidate must be able to demonstrate they can satisfactorily: –
- develop and/or implement processes to manage ideas and information including:
- communicating information to support others to achieve work responsibilities
- facilitating employees’ contributions to consultation on work issues
- providing feedback on the outcomes of consultations
- resolution of issues raised or referral to relevant personnel
- establish and/or implement policies to ensure that the organisation’s cultural diversity and ethical values are adhered to
- provide leadership through own behaviour including:
- professional conduct that promotes trust with internal and external contacts
- adjusting own interpersonal communication style to meet the organisation’s cultural diversity and ethical environment
- plan for, and manage, the use of networks to support identifiable outcomes for the team and the organisation
- develop and/or implement processes and systems to manage difficulties including:
- identifying and resolving conflicts and other difficulties according to organisational policies and procedures
- planning how to address difficulties
- providing guidance, counselling and support to assist co-workers in resolving their work difficulties.
The candidate must also confirm their knowledge of: –
- how systems, policies and procedures can support the development of effective work relationships focusing on interpersonal styles, communications, consultation, cultural and social sensitivity, networking and conflict resolution
- the relevant legislation for managing effective workplace relationships.
Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in the management and leadership field of work and include access to:
- relevant legislation, regulations, standards and codes
- relevant workplace documentation and resources
- case studies and, where possible, real situations
- interaction with others.
Assessors must satisfy NVR/AQTF assessor requirements.
USING THIS ASSESSMENT KIT
This assessment kit contains all of the assessment activities that will be used to confirm the candidate’s competency.
There are 4 sections in this assessment kit.
- Knowledge Evidence
- Performance Evidence
- Assessment Summary and
- Appendix / Templates
Section 1 is where confirmation of the underpinning knowledge for the unit is established. This activity can be completed by the candidate in their own time although a time limit should be established by the assessor consistent with the overall assessment needs for the qualification.
Section 2 is where the assessor records over time their observations of the candidate in carrying specific activities. In most instances these performances are benchmarked to the requirements of the unit of competency
Section 3 provides the overall assessment summary. Section 4 provides the organisational details for Section 2
All of the assessment activities must be successfully completed. Candidates will have two (2) opportunities to complete the assessment tasks successfully
This Assessment Kit is accompanied by a Marking guide (retained by the assessor) and the key difference between the two is: –
- the Marking guide provides the suggested responses and performance benchmarks whereas the candidate’s kit provides
- the instructions on what assessment activities need to be completed and where the assessment outcomes are recorded
The assessor needs one Marking guide only as its purpose is to benchmark the typical responses, characteristic performance attributes of the assessment criteria etc., to ensure consistency in the assessment decision. (Note should any improvements such as omissions or corrections are required please advise the RTO Manager for moderation)
Each candidate is provided with their own assessment kit, which is where the assessor records the assessment, its outcomes and any feedback.
When an assessment is completed, recorded and discussed, the completed activity and the record of the outcome is removed from the candidate’s kit and added to the student’s file.
RECORDING THE ASSESSMENT OUTCOMES
Assessors are to record their observations, feedback and determinations in the candidate’s assessment kit using the space provided.
Whenever the following panel appears in this kit, that page must be completed and thenremoved by to be returned to the RTO where it is kept with your records.
Note, any issues or misunderstanding about the intent of any question or task described in this document, needs to be referred to the Principal as part of the continuous improvement and moderation practices adopted by the RTO again using the space provided in the candidate’s assessment kit.
