Introduction

While observing the video clip, I have prioritised analysis of the storytelling ability based on the use of characters, voice, and tension. This document analyses the contribution of these three elements in my successful storytelling presentation.

Three Elements

Character Representation

Character representation is vital in successfully representing the story as it allows the audience to identify the charter specification. The role and character of storytelling allow understanding of a person’s values and attitudes, and intentions. As mentioned by Damiano et al. (2019), characters are the main manifestation of the drama that provides an understanding of the concept and conflict represented through the story told. An artist must brainstorm the character specification and decide the differences in characters based on differences in scenes and moods.

All these aspects are needed to stage while playing the character successfully. It also becomes necessary to ensure that one’s character is not overpowering another character, as it can lead to confusion. Characters and roles are the primary components of staging art. Thus, characters are needed to be respected in such a way so that the audience can successfully understand the character specification. Each character has different specifications regarding role, focus, and intentions.

The artist needs to use different elements to stage only this element as the focus and intention of each character can be reflected through expression, mood, and use of voice and style of using words. There is a proper collaboration among the artist while staging the drama and it has successfully been represented within the time. In the video, the children successfully adopted the characters and reflected specification of each character through the act.

Voice

The drama is staged by a group of children in the clip. Thus, there have been differences in the use of voices. As suggested by Feniger-Schaal and Koren-Karie (2021), the voice and associated body language of a character in the drama are considered the building blocks of drama. The use of voice allows for enhancing the expressiveness of the characters, reflecting the specification of the situation and allowing the understanding of the relationships between characters in a drama.

For example, there have been used songs for staging the scene and making the artwork more representable. The clip shows a child staging the scene and others acting the scene, the children staging the scene using straightforward voiceover providing details, and the other children in character using their voices per character specification. Overall, the use of voices has provided the scope of differentiating the character specification as per the significance of the character in the story.

Tension

Tension signifies the changes in the scene and changes in the character’s attitude. This drama is considered successfully using tension to stage the sense, and the child telling the story has used the tension in voice to reflect a turning point. The children playing the characters have reflected tension through voice tone. The children playing the role of Lion have maintained a strong voiceover to reflect the tension in the scene.

Tension provides the anticipation of conflict within a character and helps to determine the relationship of a better character in a drama. The use of tension reflects the problem stages in the drama scene for better audience engagement. Tension is also used to stage the climax of drama and ensure anticipation in the audience for their engagement with the story staged. I have identified that the children acting in the dram has used tension though changes voice and behaviour for better understanding of the scene.

Conclusion

Thus based on the analysis of three elements, it can be identified that all three elements of drama, including character, voice, and tension, contribute to the successful staging of a drama and storytelling. For an artist, it becomes necessary to identify the specification of each character and can act as power the specification to avoid confusion of the audience. From the clip, it can be identified that the children have successfully staged the drama and used tones and songs to represent the moral of the story; significant use of voice and tension as well as a character has been identified.  Use of voice changes and tension has made this drama presentable and understandable.
