The aim of this assessment is to develop student’s knowledge about theoretical concepts or frameworks explored during the semester and apply them to a real case analysis. This task involves a selection of one specific hotel property of the students’ choice, which is to be presented in a report format. Students are expected to include the following:
- Background information about selected hotel property, location; affiliation and information about the brand/company that this hotel operates under; specific star rating; Tripadvisor reviews; market segmentation; performance of this property if available to you (such as occupancy, ADR etc.). Your analysis should also include your overall impression of the property based on the physical environment that you have observed.
- Major brands/companies that operate in the same market and their relationships.
- Key legal requirements/regulatory bodies that govern/ influence the sector in which this hotel brand operates (include a minimum of 2 legislations/regulatory bodies that apply for the rooms division department).
- Organisational structure and key operating departments of this hotel, including an organisational chart for this establishment. You will then need to select one department of your choice which you will further analyse in more detail (key function, personnel and their main duties and responsibilities).
- Management approaches to enhance customer experience within this property or brand.
- Major challenge/s affecting operation of this department or hotel and related implications and recommendations
- to address identified challenge/s (based on chosen underpinning theory and the review of the literature) for the future course of action that this hotel should pursue in the future.
Notes:
To ensure you have selected a suitable hotel confirm your selection of selected hotel with your tutor. You can only start working on your report until your selection is confirmed, as the aim is to prevent duplications.
Students are encouraged to start working on this assessment early, and by making necessary arrangements with the hotel e.g. by organising meeting with a hotel management representative in advance (recommended).

Assessment 2: Case Study: Hotel Analysis presentation (Part B)
Assessment Type: Presentation (Part B) – (2 students)
Weighting: 20%
Word Count: 8 minutes presentation + 2 minutes Q&A
Due date: Week 11- 12 (during tutorial hours)
Details:
In assessment two (Part B), is an oral presentation designed to assess students’ ability to present on the report findings (Part A). Students are required to create a PowerPoint (or similar such as Prezi or Piktochart) presentation or an electronic poster to present the report findings. The presentation/poster should include all topics as outlined in the instruction for assessment 2 (Part A), and should also incorporate images, diagrams, charts and other visual aids and text to draw attention to the topic and effectively communicate the key research findings in relation to the case analysis.
In weeks 11 and 12, students will present their case study analysis to their peers and teaching staff, for no more than 10 minutes (including the Q&A).
