Submission requirements: Online via vUWS to the respective Tutor’s Turinitin Link.
General Instructions This assignment primarily consists of quantity measurement for a given building project (this is Task 1) and writing a reflection on task 1 assignment (this is Task 2). This should be presented in the form of an INDIVIDUAL report (MS Word or PDF) by compiling the bill of quantities (BoQ), take-off list, measurement sheets and the query sheets for ONLY ONE Option listed below together with your reflection. Task 1: Measurement (35%) You are required to act as a Quantity Surveyor employed by the client to measure the quantities for ONLY ONE Option for the proposed project (see Project Drawings separately attached in vUWS) and prepare the take of list, measurement sheets, query list and bill of quantities (BoQ) for the selected Option in accordance with the Australian and New Zealand Standard Method of Measurement for Building Works (ANZSMM). Select ONLY ONE option from the below list of options: Option 1 – Groundworks Option 2 – Concrete and formwork Option 3 – Reinforcement Option 4 – Internal finishes for floor and ceiling finishes Option 5 – Internal finishes for wall finishes You are required to use the correct formats for each document. All templates are given on vUWS in Assessment 2 (see the Assessment Zone) and they are introduced in lectures and tutorials. Please note that you are NOT required to price the BoQ. Pricing is taught in a different unit. Task 1 must have all four documents and combined in following order for the option you selected: Section 1: Billof Quantities (BQ) Section 2: Take-off list Section 3: Measurement sheets Section 4: Query sheets Some Tips on Task 1 Measurement: Please see how all four documents are used in tutorials. You need to have the prescribed textbook for this unit – ANZSMM Recommended procedure: First, you need to identify the items that should be measured for your selected option using the take-off sheet, while referring to the given project drawings and ANZSMM. Next, take-off quantities for those identified items using the measurement sheets, following measurement rules in ANZSMM. Use query sheet to mention the queries/assumptions made on missing details/ discrepancies. In the query sheet, both columns should be filled. That is the query and your assumed answer. Finally, put together the BoQ using the quantities you measured in the measurement sheets, also remember to add appropriate ‘preamble notes’ and ‘trade preliminary items’ before those measured items to make a complete BoQ. Preamble notes and trade preliminary items are listed at the beginning of each ANZSMM section. For writing descriptions, you need to check ANZSMM requirements and any specifications/ notes in the drawings. You can see the example BoQs, which are shown in lectures/tutorials to formulate descriptions, when you are unable to find details in the given project, make sensible assumptions and include in your query sheets. Task 2: Reflective Writing on the Learning Process (5%) Write a reflection (400 words) on your learning of assignment Task 1. Your reflection must address the following areas: Producing take off list Measuring Writing queries/assumptions Producing BoQ Use of project drawings, specification notes and ANZSMM on above Some Tips on Task 2 Reflective Writing Reflective writing can be somewhat less structured, compared to a report or essay, though still needs to have good paragraph and sentence structure. It allows you to write in the first person, using “I” because it is your thoughts and experience that are important. You are not expected to include referencing as this is simply reflecting on your own learning process. For more tips on reflective writing and other types of writing see https://www.westernsydney.edu.au/studysmart/home/assignment_help/writing It is very important that you attend weekly tutorials, where similar exercises are taught and assignment consultation is offered. Word limit: It is inappropriate to strictly impose a word limit to this type of submission. You are required to provide all required components as advised in the Task 1 and Task 2 above irrespective of the word count as a one report. Late submissions: A late submission without approval for an extension will be penalised by 10 per cent per calendar day up to 10 days. Extensions will only be considered under approved Special Considerations. Please refer to Learning Guide for other general submission requirements.
