INTRODUCTION
Since the economic sense of Brexit has totally changed from COVID-19, market managers should consider how they interact. The COVID-19 economic shock would undoubtedly be much higher than Brexit’s immediate effects. Lockdowns (international as well as domestic) have had a greater impact on demand than anything previously seen. COVID-19 is apparent, and Brexit is a highly diverse economic shock. COVID-19 has brought about some of the sharpest GDP decreases in Britain and elsewhere in Europe (Bieber, 2020). Although the recovery path is uncertain, many of the effects will eventually prove temporary, although long-term, socio-economic effects such as supply-chain changes or how people and organisations operate might also be difficult to predict. In contrast, the way in which Brexit handles the EU and some of its other trade partners in the UK most likely brings with it more predictable changes, but these changes will continue to be. COVID-19 is unquestionably more expensive than Brexit’s immediate demand and increase impact.
Impact
Automotive is also a hotbed for the rapid fall in consumer demand. As a result of COVID-19, demand for cars declined 40% between January and August, compared to the previous year8. The lack of demand from consumers has cascaded the supply chain for cars. Certain suppliers have stopped their production.
Given the potential for additional lock-down COVID-19, no guarantee exists that people in the UK and the EU can be transported and that staff can be reluctant to move in the pandemic themselves. 12 As a result, a whole host of impacts are created with people likely to become taxplace residents or staff not ready to move earlier than planned (Diwivedi et al., 2020). However, delays threaten service delivery gaps. Those employees who agreed to move from the UK to the EU had often only partly planned to do so, such as quasi-duty for a couple of days a week. But during COVID-19, this is obviously much more difficult for many of the above reasons, which allows certain employees to reconsider their decision to move.
The exact duration of COVID-19 will vary from industry to industry and will depend on the character of the economic recovery that will depend on the pandemic struggle. Renewed partial lock-outs or social distancing tightening or easing, for example, will determine whether certain areas, such as recreation and hospitality, can resume normal operation. An effective vaccine would probably be transformational (McFarland et al., 2020). Resources have been extended to their limits in terms of both money and people. At the same time, businesses across the economy had to spend money and other resources to manage the time until the end of the Brexit transition period, and immediately after that. This will further extend the balance sheets.
CONCLUSION
Brexit’s combination with the pandemic COVID-19 is a tremendous challenge for companies. A few key business takeovers from our analysis are available:
• Short time, not fully prepared businesses and immediate specific Brexit plans are needed. These should include regulatory and tax issues across supply chains and people.
• They need to be reassessed given the changing context, even if you have Brexit plans in place. In the context of Pre-COVID-19, plans that might make sense may not now make sense. Things that in the preceding context might have been minor may be of a different magnitude if linked to COVID-19.
