Leadership
Reflection
In the current situation I felt little overwhelmed by huge work pressure. As I have asked for help, and could not receive the same, I have felt a little embarrassed. I think these feelings are justified. It is a primary duty of the staffs in a hospital setting to support each other and coordinate effectively at the time of work pressure. This could be highly crucial for reach to the patients with proper health care support and medications. I have asked for help for several times to improve the entire patient outcome as it is my primary duty. However, as the situation did not proceed with my preference and planning and I could not get any help I felt pressured. Therefore, my thoughts and feelings are justified.
As a nurse leader, I need be more responsive and focus only on the expectations and requirements of the patients. In doing so, I will need full support and assistance from my team members. Effective collaboration and coordination will be developed with the primary nurses so that the process of caring for the patients will be possible to the desired degree (Giddens, 2018). In order to prevent behavior seen in the video, I will try to understand the pressure upon the primary nurse and will monitor which primary nurse actually requires help and how to support them in that situation. I will request the higher authority to appoint more primary nurses into the same unit so that the existing nurses do not feel they are pressurized as this may reduce their work effectiveness that is not desired in the current situation. As a manager I will put more primary nurses in the required unit. Lack of leadership skills and traits led to uncivil behavior in nursing. The policy will be developed based on the local legislation so that every staff compliesto those policies.
In conclusion, I feel prepared for handling the mentioned situation in the case study as I believe that I have leadership traits and skills which include insightfulness, clear vision, empathetic and others.
