Project Objectives
- To further develop space planning through 2-dimensional spatial exploration.
- To develop lighting and ceiling plans.
- To apply further regulatory standards through refinement of space planning.
Description
This project builds upon previous assignments, refines the floor plan and begins to look at design elements, ceilings and lighting. Utilizing the conceptual development, students will build upon their initial design and populate specific areas through 3D sketching and 2D elevations.
Required Materials
- Sketching tools
- Computer with Internet capabilities
- Digital visual communication software such as InDesign, Adobe, or PowerPoint
Instructions
Part 1: Floor Plan Refinement
- Review all comments from your professor and peers, refine and complete your floor plan. Your final floor plan will include the following:
- All doors, interior windows, built-in cabinetry, and special design elements
- All furniture and equipment.
- Room names
- Ensure you have addressed all codes and universal design principles
- You will have one Page for Part 1 which will have your final 2D space plan of the suite demonstrated. Ensure you have a small Key Plan of the floor demonstrating the location of your suite and then an enlarged floor plan showing just your suite design.
Part 2: Ceiling and Lighting Plan
- Utilizing the floor plan as an underlay, begin to develop a reflected ceiling plan.
- Ensure your plan looks at ceiling materials, heights, and creative designs
- Indicate all lighting fixtures on the plan utilizing symbols.
- Create a lighting legend that demonstrates the symbol used on the plan, an image of the fixture, type of lamp, and other pertinent information. See example provided.
- You may wish to add other images to your pages demonstrating ceiling designs or materials.
- You will have two Pages for Part 2. One for your lighting plan and another for your legend. You can add another page if you have additional images that will represent your intent.
Lighting Legend Example
Part 3: Elevation and Sketching
- Create 1 elevation of a feature wall within your reception area.
- Develop a logo (identity and branding) for your client and place this logo on the feature wall. Ensure you reference your floor plan to indicate where your elevation is located.
- Create 2 quick 3D sketches of 2 other chosen features in your space. These are rough development sketches that show design development. They should each represent a key area within your space.
- You will have two pages for Part 2.
- One for your elevation with a key plan indicating the view of your elevation.
- One page for the 2 sketches. You also should indicate the areas that they are representing.
Format
The following is the expected outcome of this project:
- Format is on 11’’ x 17’’ sheets – landscape orientation.
- Include a title page.
- Cite your sources using APA style. In-text citations and references list MUST be included for all research and images using APA format. Refer to the Yorkville Online Services or OWL Purdue (n.d.). APA style. Retrieved from https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/ for more information on how to properly cite (both in-text and within a bibliography). Any projects missing citations will be deemed plagiarism and will be given a zero.
Submission
Once complete, save your assignment as DIDS220_Assignment3_lastname_firstname.pdf and upload to the Assignment Submission page for grading.
