ESSAY TOPIC |
Essay topic: Critically discuss the advantages and disadvantages of technology in health care. Insert your essay topic in this section. Copy and paste your chosen topic from the assessment instructions. Do not change the words. |
INTRODUCTION: Thesis/Position statement |
Write your thesis/position statement (only one sentence). Your thesis statement must clearly and concisely indicate your argument in response to the essay topic. You must argue either FOR or AGAINST: are there more advantages/benefits or disadvantages/impacts in relation to your topic? Do not ‘sit on the fence’. |
INTRODUCTION: List the topics to be covered in the essay in the order in which they appear |
In ONE or TWO complete sentences, list the main points that you will cover in your essay. These main points must outline the advantages/benefits and disadvantages/impacts you will cover in each of your paragraphs. These points form the basis of your topic sentences in your body paragraphs. You must have a balance of arguments in your essay (e.g. three advantages and three disadvantages). |
BODY: Four paragraphs Plan |
For each paragraph plan: Start with a topic sentence (TS) written as a full sentence. Do not include a citation or in-text reference. Each topic sentence mustintroduce a different point (e.g. a specific advantage or disadvantage). This allows you to focus on one idea per paragraph and to follow it with a convincing argument. After the topic sentence, add supporting evidence. These must be listed in dot/bullet point form to act as prompts when you start writing the essay. Each supporting point must have an in-text reference (also called a citation). You must include at least two different references per paragraph plan.Finish with a concluding sentence (CS) written as a full sentence. Do not include an in-text reference or citation. The concluding sentence must re-state the key point you introduced in the topic sentence, but in different words. |
BODY: Draft of two (2) body paragraphs (maximum 200 words for each paragraph) |
Write a draft of ONLY TWO of your body paragraphs planned for your essay. Your essay paragraphs must include the following components: A topic sentence (TS) written as a complete sentence that states the key point of the paragraph. (Re-use the topic sentences you wrote in your Plan above.) Evidence to substantiate the key point you are making in each paragraph. These must be referenced. (Develop the dot/bullet points from your Plan above into full sentences and cite at least two different sources from myReadings in each paragraph.) A concluding/linking sentence (CS) that links back to your topic sentence. (Re-use the concluding sentences you wrote in your Plan above. Remember that this is only a draft and these paragraphs may change before you submit your Assessment 3 essay due to your additional research and feedback received for this assessment. |
CONCLUSION: Restate Thesis/Position Statement in different words |
Restate the thesis/position statement that you included in your introduction, but using different words to your introduction. This should be written as one complete sentence at the start of your conclusion. Then, in dot/bullet points, list the main points covered in your essay. Do not copy and paste the sentences you wrote in your introduction paragraph. |
REFERENCES: List the four (4) references provided |
List the four references used either in APA or HARVARD style, depending on your discipline. These MUST be the references provided in myReadings for your topic. Present your four references in alphabetical order based on the first author’s surname. Remember: Do NOT change the order of the authors within each reference. |
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY: Turnitin Reflection (maximum 200 words) |
Once you have completed your Assessment 2, submit it through Turnitin at least 24 – 48 hours before it is due. Then, once your Originality Report has been generated (this can take up to an hour depending on your Internet speed), write a 200-word reflection in a SINGLE PARAGRAPH on your experience of using Turnitin to submit your assessment. Include the following information (NOT in dot/bullet points): Your score. An interpretation of what your score means. An explanation of how you addressed any Academic Integrity issues in your assessment (if there are any). If there are no Academic Integrity issues raised, explain why. Your view of the benefits and challenges of using Turnitin to submit assessments at university. Since this is about you reflecting on your experience of using Turnitin, you can use personal pronouns, such as ‘I’ (but not ‘you’ or ‘we’). However, you still must use correct grammar and punctuation (e.g. do not use contractions, such as ‘can’t’). You will then re-submit this assessment, with your 200-word reflection, through the same Turnitin link BEFORE the due date. |
