The Written Group Presentation Paper is to demonstrate the knowledge and skills required to work effectively in a team of 4-5 group members – to research and design a group seminar on one of the communication topics taught within this course. Please see examples of communication topics you can choose from on the next page.
You are to imagine you are working in a small team of 4-5 group members; you then research and write about the steps required when working in this small team – using the five main headings below

Key Guidelines
- Assignment to use the five key headings set out below
- To be written in normal academic prose i.e., paragraph and sentence structures
- No dot pointed, numbered or other indented work to be used
- Using 3rd person academic language throughout; except for bit of 1st person language in Section 4
- References to include a minimum of 6-8 peer reviewed academic sources
- To follow UniSA’s Harvard Referencing Guide
- Listed in strict alphabetical order in your end References list
Five Headings – to be used in your assignment approx. word count
- Choice of Topic, and Why?
Firstly, you need to choose one communication-based topic from those taught throughout the course. See the online course site for choice of communication topics
- Briefly discuss why this Communication topic is relevant in the Human Services – drawing on relevant academic research work in your discussion 200 words
- First Steps and why these First Steps are Important
Discuss the first steps ‘that would be’ required in your group’s first meeting, and why? e.g., to introduce yourselves to each other, agree upon one topic for your group’s presentation and so forth.
- Include a critical discussion of the ways in which your group will work together in a fair and equitable manner; e.g., in negotiating and allocating tasks to different group members – again, drawing on relevant academic research work 300 words
3. Key Communication Skills used when working together as a team
Identify and discuss 3 key communication skills required throughout the weekly team meetings.
- Communication skills involved in working together as a team; in preparing your team’s seminar
- Drawing on research work into each of these specific skills (e.g., good listening skills, good negotiation and conflict management skills and so forth) 600 words
4. Own Personal Communication Skills/Strengths
Discuss two particular strengths that you would bring to the group process (e.g., leadership skills, time management skills, good minute taking skills). Include a clear outline of each of these two strengths and examples of how they are strengths of yours.

5. Design Skills in putting a Seminar Together/Inclusive of Public Speaking Strategies
Discuss the key aspects involved in designing your group’s final Presentation. Here it would be good to do some academic research work into the design of effective PP Slides with the aim of your group delivering an effective, structured and engaging presentation?
- Discuss how the group would use their audio-visual aids to actively engage the audience for a successful interactive presentation.
- Discuss ways in which concerns/fears around public speaking could be managed; e.g., through the use of cue cards and other public speaking strategies. 300 words
