Assignment Title and Guidelines Title: An analysis of the education of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) including a transition IEP. Tom is a lively 6 year old boy who has been attending your local preschool. He will be moving to his local Primary school in September. His sister already attends there and is in second class. Tom has ASD. He has, also, been diagnosed as having mild general learning disabilities. He is non- verbal and he uses Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) and gesture to communicate. He is toilet trained but needs to be reminded to use the toilet. He likes the playground, particularly the swing. Tom likes swimming. In the past he has demonstrated behaviours when transitioning from the pool. Tom is long-sighted and he has been prescribed glasses for reading which he wears sporadically. His parents are concerned about the move because the school is much bigger than his current one. They worry that he will not make friends. (You may add extra relevant information.) Guidelines: Part A (50 marks) Based on the information in the Case Study complete a transition IEP for Tom (SEE TEMPLATE ATTACHED). Complete all sections of the Template. Amongst other information include: Tom’s details derived from his current IEPInformation gathered from his parents, multi-disciplinary team members, other staffAll of Tom’s Strengths and Needs6 Priority Learning Needs (PLNs) and Rationale for prioritising them (see Template). (The Need as listed in the Strengths and Needs lists is transferred exactly to PLN box.) Part B (50 marks) A 500 word written piece to include research and reference and discussion of the following:- One effective strategy for teaching children with ASD. (Written piece to be inserted in box on template.) |
