Type of Submission: The assignment will be Individual work with a single component.
Preparing the report: Choose a company of your choice or a company allotted by the faculty. Prepare a Business Analysis Core Concept Model (BACCM) report giving an overview of the core concepts’ relationships, explaining Six Knowledge Areas and Five Perspectives of Business Analysis to that company. Design innovative and integrative solutions to different areas of operations of the company.
Topic: Cummins –
Cummins’ main product ranges are fossil fuel based, whereas the current scenario of worst pollution and hence climatic change demands carbon neutral technologies-based systems. Therefore, there is an urgent need for Cummins to go for green fuel-based system. However, the transition is going to be long process during which Cummins can play crucial role such as emergency or transition power system. That is, Cummins can advantageously make use of the opportunity to play a role as hybrid system or Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS), or to complement the shortcomings of renewable power. Ultimately, Cummins should aim Carbon-neutral system in the long run. Energy storage system and hydrogen-based fuel cell are potentially emerging to stabilize the renewable energy uncertainties. Still, Cummins can, as mentioned earlier, can play emergency power supply along with battery storage and hydrogen fuel-cell system. Currently, its power system are meant to cater for interruption in grid-power which is mainly from coal-based thermal power.
Cummins is on the way to new power systems such as battery, fuel cell, and hydrogen-production technologies. These systems are in the nascent stage not visible and yet to penetrate in the global level.
1.2 Key Concepts
The six core concepts of The Business Analysis Core Concept Model™ (BACCM™) Viz., Change, Need, Solution, Stakeholder, Value, and Context are applied and ‘A Guide to the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge® (BABOK® Guide)’ framework is followed.
1.2 Challenges faced by Cummins
Challenges otherwise solutions for Cummins are listed as below:
- Cummins system can continue to play emergency power supply role to complement renewable energy also, thus playing the role of hybrid system.
- Cummins should accelerate developmental activity, its technical manpower for the transition in the areas of newer power. Should plan complementing activities potentially in India.
- Its infrastructure should also be tuned specifically to support the renewable energy system.
Cummins’ core products are Fossil fuel based systems mainly engines and Captive Power Generating Systems or Emergency Power Systems. The unabated pollution is causing devastating damages on environment and are evidence on climatic changes.
- Needs
There is an urgent needs to collaborate with Green Energy Developers to complement and to address the shortcomings.
- Solution
The best solution is going for Carbon neutral systems. This is a long term solution as it envisages monumental changes. The short term solution should aim for strict emission norms such as shifting from Stage-4 to Bharat Stage-6 Standard (BS-6). Further, Cummins should support Green Energy Developers by playing the role of Emergency Power Systems for smooth transition. The urgent needs of Green Energy Developers are Energy storage systems such as Battery, Fuel Cell and Reverse-Pumping Hydro systems. Still, there is a requirement for Emergency Power Systems which Cummins should continue to work and contribute with the best emission control.

- Context
The whole world is looking for better technologies and solutions to mitigate the present pollution and environmental problems. Everyone is going for carbon neutral green technological systems moving from fossil based systems. For Cummins, though it initiated developmental work on the newer carbon neutral power systems, it is going to be huge challenge as its core products are fossil fuel based.
