Type of Collabora- tion: | Individual |
Due: | MONDAY 8TH JANUARY 2024 by 7 am |
Submission: | As a single Microsoft Word document Shona will be putting your work through Turnitin for commonality checking. |
Format: | Students are required to make choices on formatting and style of presentation of information in each section to effectively and efficiently communicate the information required to the depth and detail appropriate for the section. Referencing is Vancouver numbers in brackets not superscripted. |
Rationale:
Part of the role of a Sports and Exercise Physiologist is to choose, implement and report on valid, reliable, and useful sport specific testing regimes and then use the information gained from such testing to provide detailed information to individuals and their coaches/teachers/instructors on the types of training required to address and desired performance improvements. They are also required to integrate information from other health professionals and sport & exercise science sub disciplines. This assessment item assesses student skills in this area as applied to sporting and physically demanding occupations.
Task:
This task is in TWO MAJOR Sections. The same tasks are required for both sections. Section 1: Sport
Students must complete their assessment on an International Field Hockey Referee male aged 40 to 50. This means all the work you do on the Sport in Parts 1 to 5 inclusive must relate to a male aged 20 to 30 years preparing to referee at the 2023 Men’s World Cup (2023 Men’s FIH Hockey World Cup) India. Umpires can be expected to be umpiring every day of the competition.
Section 2: Physically demanding occupation
Students must choose a physically demanding DANCE performance genre in which Females 20 to 30 yrs old regularly perform over a whole season of performances with a recognised dance company (e.g any ballet or contemporary dance company). The work provided for this Section must relate to a Female dancer 20 to 30 years of age. Choose car e fu l l y the r e is a lot of i nfor m ati on ou t the r e

TASKS: For each of Section 1 and 2 above students are to separately compile the following:
- A written section that details the demands of field hockey umpiring/chosen dance performance genre. This is not limited to physiological/bioenergetic demands, you also need to bring in, as appropriate demands related to other sport & exercise science sub disciplines. This must include reference to literature.
- A test you would use to assess the highest priority Aerobic Energy System related demand identified in 1 above. For the test you must include:
- Information covering
- How the test is linked to the demands identified.
- Information about its validity and reliability.
- Information on the normal venue types for the testing for the specified population.
- Pre-exercise screening document for the specified population that collects all appropriate information needed be sure the individuals are safe to test.
- A risk assessment document for the test.
- Test protocols
- Equipment list
- testing procedures
- Appropriate norms/standards for the specified population (if these are not available then a brief description of how you would establish them).
- How data collected will be processed.
- A template for the reporting of test results
- How the results of the test can be used to inform training specifics for the specified population.
- A basic annual plan covering only the 1 specified type of specified type of highest priority highest priority Aerobic Energy System related demand.
- One highly detailed Interval Training session plan, for the specified type of specified type of highest priority, Aerobic Energy System related demand identified in 1 above. This must be specific to the sport/occupation and the individuals age category:
- You must specify the normal venue types for the training sessions.
- The plans must contain risk assessment documentation.
- The plan must contain sufficient detail such that any other trainer picking up your plan will not have to ask any questions and If you do not provide this level of detail, you will lose marks.
- Your goal is to ensure a training effect however with a low likelihood of significant DOMS and overtraining
- The plan must include:
- How you are going to judge readiness next Interval
- How you are going to monitor intensity of each work interval of the session and the circumstances under which the session plan will be changed or ceased as a result of monitoring data.
- Exercise Heart Rate data is NOT to be used as your primary intensity variable. HR may only be used to supplement workload data in providing intensity targets for the training session.
- These plans must demonstrate the application (use) of information from the relevant test in your test battery.
- Recommendations for Nutritional and Hydration practices specific to the event location and frequency of the umpiring/dance performance for the event (umpiring) season of performances,
including information on how they contribute to increased rate of recovery.
