Materials Required
  • All previous assignments & respective feedback
  • Black markers
  • Imperial scale
  • Drafting pencils
  • Access to Product and Material Sources/samples
  • Vellum or mylar for final drawing
  • INdesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Powerpoint or whichever program you feel comfortable using, assembling project entirety
  • Camera/scanner
  • Foam boards (white, black or neutral) (on campus only)
  • Scissors, Glue, Cutting Mat, X-acto Knife (on campus only)
Instructions
  1. You will compose digital presentation boardsthat contain all the components listed below. These boards may be broken up and organized however you feel is appropriate. Approximate size 11”x17” (standard industry portfolio size)
  2. Scan your drawings within a layout program of your choice (PowerPoint will do if you are not comfortable with using a more sophisticated program like InDesign as described in the lecture). Ensure you do not distort the scale and proportion of your drawings by cropping them within software.
  3. Note that on campus studentswill be required to create a physical Materials board(s) that will be submitted in class on the day of presentations.
Client Profile & Overview

This should be an introductory slide(s) that lets your peers, professor and invited guest understand who your client is and what they are looking to achieve within their new space.

Concept Statement & Inspiration

By now you will have a finalized concept statement with associated images of inspiration that support your clients intention and have guided your design decisions throughout the term. This slide should make an impression on the group being presented to, and should be a combination of written and visual material.

Finalized Furniture Plans ¼”=1-‘0”
  1. Finalize your furniture plans for both floors of the loft; drafted in PEN/INK paying attention to lineweights/thickness.
  2. Plans should be drawn to scale using a straightedge or other necessary drafting template tools and include appropriate room labels and annotations where needed.
  3. Include elevation & section symbols where applicable.
  4. Label each floor and indicate north arrow.
4 Elevations: Kitchen & Bath ¼”=1’-0”
  1. Finalize the 4 elevations drafted of your kitchen and bath; drafted in PEN/INK paying attention to lineweights/thickness. There should be a visual indication of depth.
  2. Elevations should be drawn to scale using a straightedge and drafting equipment.
  3. Elevations should be labeled. High level of detail and depth should be included as these are presentation drawings (baseboards, cabinetry design, tile, cabinetry/door pulls, materiality, mirrors, lighting, etc.)
  1. Cross-Sections ¼=1’-0”
  1. Finalize both sections; drafted in PEN/INK paying attention to lineweights/thickness. There should be a visual indication of depth.
  2. Sections should be drawn to scale using a straightedge and drafting equipment.
  3. Sections should be labeled (north/south & east/west). High level of detail and depth should be included as these are presentation drawings (all furniture seen, baseboards, artwork, cabinetry design, tile, cabinetry/door pulls, materiality, mirrors, lighting, etc.)
  1. sketches/vignettes
  1. Finalize your 3 previous sketches; drafted in PEN/INK paying attention to lineweights/thickness. There should be a visual indication of depth.
  2. While these sketches are freehand, they should appear complete and comprehensive. Though they are not to scale, you should pay close consideration to proportion and size relationships. The idea is to illustrate your sketching ability, and the process involved in your design development.
  3. Sketches should be labeled according to area. High level of detail and depth should be included as these are presentation drawings (all furniture seen, baseboards, artwork, cabinetry design, tile, cabinetry/door pulls, materiality, mirrors, lighting, etc.)
Material Boards (FF&E and Finishes)
  1. Review your concept and design statement as well as the feedback from previous assignments. Finalize FF&E and finishes that support the design intent of the project. Make sure that you have enough samples/images to explain the project.
  2. Presentation boards are not only an opportunity for you to communicate the visual ideas you are considering for the project but this is also a reflection of you, the designer. How you compose/design these boards speaks to your organization, attention to detail and level of professionalism as a designer.
  3. There are two options for composing the boards. You may choose to compose samples by zones/rooms or compose by materials/furniture and fixtures only. You are to consider the design principles and elements as you design the boards. For example, you may consider the design principle of BALANCE by integrating symmetry; a balanced proportion of visual information on the vertical and horizontal planes of the board.
  4. ON CAMPUS students must complete physical material boards and bring it to class on the day of final presentations. It will be submitted separately from your digital presentation.
  5. ON LINE students must completed digital material boards that will accompany their final presentation submission.
  6. FF&E, Finish Selections, Schedule & Key– a table listing all finishes and keyed to your FF&E Boards. Refer to example below. Ensure your samples are labeled accordingly.
  7. Note: these schedules will appear in your Project Book (Assignment 6). For your final presentation however, your materials board requires the keyed codes/labels on each sample.
